My daughter is loving her time at BC, but she’s not an athlete. What I have observed though, is that BC is very supportive of its athletes and they want them to succeed academically as well as in their sports. Do you think your daughter will continue her career in her sport, or do you think she would benefit from a school interested in developing her character and studies, so that she has a future with many options?
Probably the weather and certainly the food will be better in California, but BC kids seem pretty enthusiastic about their school, and there are a lot of Californians there.
Just an update as so many of you have such great advice on this thread. Our family was split on the decision as we loved both schools. D25 signed to Boston College for rowing last week. So we re done. UCLA was simply amazing also. In the end I think she wanted to stay east coast closer to home, she is comfortable in the Boston area from boarding school and was attracted to Boston rowing culture and smaller school and of course loved the coach / team. It was a win win decision and I appreciate all your great advice. Thank you thank you!
Congratulations to your daughter. Hope she has a wonderful experience at BC.
Great options. BC should be a wonderful experience.
Congratulations on making the decision! We sent one of our daughters to BC, she had a great 4 years there, made life long friends, and has had a great career since. One of her roommates was a rower and we heard stories about the early rowing times. The rowing culture is certainly a thing there. For years I used to go to the Head of the Charles every year.
One advantage of her BC decision to you is the time zone. Distance is one thing, but a difference if 2 or 3 time zones is a big deal - especially if you want to follow her sport.
