@ItsAPotato thank you for the recommendation! how would i go about that?
Could just having your stats in progress be what is their cause for denial? I have heard they are stingy if the math isn’t done prior to applying.
@socaljds Here is the link to for the appeal page on UCSBs website.
http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/applying/appeal-process
However, before you appeal, make sure you just double check you did indeed meet all the requirements for TAG preferably with a counselor. If you did meet every single condition (there’s a lot for TAG) I think you will have a very strong appeal.
Best of luck!
Just got done attending the Spring Insight. I came away impressed! Well worth the 3 hour drive and having to wake up at 5am. My family and I recieved in-depth information about financial aid, attending early for summer sessions and more. The highlight of my day was being able to speak one on one with my academic major advisor (communications). As of now im pretty committed to UCSB even if i get into UCI and UCLA.
@socaljds ?? that makes no sense… I really feel like you would have gotten accepted. Stats in progress shouldn’t be that much of a big deal especially if you already tagged. Try calling and finding out the reason? Sorry
Do UCSB TAG applicants get notified if their TAG was accepted before admissions decisions get released? For instance, I tagged to UC Davis and they notified us if our TAG was accepted in mid-November and then we had to follow contract rules to keep the TAG. Did UCSB do the same thing?
UCSB does not because they give you until Fall to have met the requirements.
So how long before we should be concerned about not having a place to stay next year and not having any potential roomates, etc?
@Panorama14 I just got home from there, too! I wish I had been able to talk to financial aid and my major advisor, but I’m a first gen college student and I didn’t know what to ask in the first place. I can just email them, right? I understand better in writing, anyway.
@boxandwhiskers No. If I recall correctly, they just sent us an update sometime in November thanking us for our application.
When is this going to happen? Im still waiting. Do people who get accepted later on have less of a chance at getting in? 3.7 History major. Math in progress.
Major: Mechanical Engineering
UC-Transferable GPA: 3.55
IGETC: complete after Spring
Prereq’s: Missing Dynamics, Strength of Material, and Electrical Circuits (Will complete ~130 units in 3 years if that matters)
EC’s: Lifeguard, Tutor
PS: 8.5
TAG: UCI
What are my chances?
Admitted!
I last checked Friday night and I wasn’t accepted yet, so I was either accepted anytime between then & Sunday 4PM.
Major: Pre-Econ & Accounting
GPA: 3.64
Prereqs: Done
IGETC: complete after spring
EC: work, student leadership
TAG: No
I will be honest here. UCSB’s engineering college is very small. They look mainly for pre-reqs. Since you are missing three, it greatly reduces your chances. And the GPA was very high this year. But that is just UCSB. It’s hyper competitive for engineering due to its size so I really would not sweat it. Which other schools did you apply to? Let us know if you get in.
Will do. I technically am missing 1 required for admission course which is dynamics the other 2 are strongly recommended. UCD, UCM, UCSB, UCI, UCR.
@socaljds If you’re talking about the stats class that is the UC required course, it needs to be completed by fall for UCSB TAG. If that’s the course you’re talking about, an appeal will make no difference.
Thoughts after spring insight for those that couldn’t make it.
Pros:
-Beautiful campus:
the lagoon is great and the beach is only a minute walk from the end of it
-Chill attitude of both locals and students:
I get people were maybe putting up a front to impress people but, for example I got there at 7 am and couldn’t find a bathroom open anywhere in IV. Walked into the IV liqour store and the owner apologized for not having one, pointed the nearest one out and wished me a good day.
-Amazingly bike and skateboard friendly:
They have dedicated pathways around campus for both bikes and skateboards and lots, and lots of places to park them.
-Lots of clubs
Ended up meeting with a few and am planning on joining three. The Transfer Student Association seems very helpful
-Close enough to SB to get there easily on bus or driving
-Bottom floors of library are open 24/7 and you are allowed to order pizza to it.
Cons:
-Far enough from SB to feel isolated if you don’t drive and aren’t used to buses
-Not much diversity in food in the area:
-From what I saw if you’re not into pizza, mexican food, burgers, and such:
Saw one sushi place and one place to get Vietnamese food/boba I didn’t see any Chinese food places near, but was told there’s a panda express on campus
^ Thanks for the impressions! I think there’s also a Yoshinoya on campus, for Asian food.
@rashomon369 The sushi place I mentioned was the sushiya lol. It’s actually in IV but only a few minutes walking from the student resource building.
Is anyone planning on living in the Westgate Apartments?
