@HeyItsNick I got the email a few hours ago. It was telling me to create my admissions portal which I found strange because I created my portal on the first possible day. It also said “Mark your calendars! UC Santa Barbara admission decisions will be posted on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 3pm PST on the portal.”
Did anyone else get that email?
@vrios95 I actually haven’t visited UCSB yet, I’ve only heard from friends who go there plus reading all these reviews online. If I get accepted on Tuesday, I plan on driving down on Wednesday to check it out lol
I got that Email, It was strange because I’ve been activity checking my UCSB portal before. I can show you guys if you want.
@Joseph590 I got an email very similar to that but from UCSC a couple days ago, just telling me to login to portal to make sure I had access, and I created it first day I could lol
@HeyItsNick Its a beautiful campus! I went to visit last year in June. If you go on the 20th beware! Since that is finals week, people will more than likely not be in the best of spirits. Open house is on April 13th @ 9:00am

I used to live in IV and the campus is amazing. It’s got a great feel and community.
Just got the email about family housing and the one about making a portal account.
@DavisPls what time did you get the email ? Also can you copy and paste it’s contents here?
Hm. I only got the email about family housing (which doesn’t apply to me). I did not receive an email about admissions decisions coming soon…Hopefully that doesn’t mean I’ll wait until April…
@kristinpete I also only got the family housing email. Some people got that on different dates I think so maybe we will receive the portal/admissions decisions email later on
@llaurenn here is the content of the emails
Family Housing:
Are you a UCSB applicant with children, a spouse or a domestic partner? UCSB applicants are invited to apply for Family Student Housing, if interested, before an admission decision is posted. Applying for Family Student Housing in no way guarantees acceptance to UCSB.
What is Family Student Housing?
UCSB provides a limited number of one- and two-bedroom, single-family units for full-time UCSB students. Two separate complexes are located approximately 1 mile from the main campus. Non-traditional and extended families are welcome. Families with children are given priority.
Why should I apply early?
Families with children can expect to wait 3-6 months and families without children can expect to wait 6-12 months.
Portal:
Mark your calendars! UC Santa Barbara admission decisions will be posted on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 3pm PST on the portal.
Our records indicate that you have not created your UCSB Applicant Portal login. Use your Perm number () or UC Application ID number to access your portal. Watch our short portal tutorial webinar for instructions.
Note: The portal will be closed as we load admission data on Sunday evening until March 19 at 3pm, so be sure to create your login before that time.
All in all these emails probably don’t mean anything about admission. They’re just a heads up. Though I did already make an account so that’s odd…
@DavisPls Interesting. I have already accessed my portal so I guess that’s why I didn’t receive an email…Weird that you received it though.
@davispls strange. I received the family housing email but not the portal one. It says pretty loud and clear to you that you’ll be receiving your admissions decision that day, so maybe they sent that to everyone whose getting it then as opposed to another date
@llauren Yeah that’s possible. We can only hope for sooner rather than later I suppose.
@llaauurenn …If that were the case, why would they make this statement?: “Our records indicate that you have not created your UCSB Applicant Portal login”
Anyone up for chancing? Thanks for any help!
Transferring from an instate CC:
- White male, 22 years old (I know they don't really look at this)
- English major
- 3.72 GPA (near 4.0 for English classes, got one B in a creative writing class of all places)
- Completed all of IGETC (GE requirements)
- Will have an AA-T degree end of semester (on accident--this is really only helpful for CSU, right?)
- Completed all major requirements (I think?)
- Been an English peer tutor for over 2 years on campus (but this is really my only EC )
- Pretty confident that my personal statements are above average
- History of mental illness (a fairly big focus of my PS)
- Lower class
- Not entirely sure what else is helpful to add (made Dean's list 4 times, does that matter at all? lol)
Thanks again for any help
I wonder if only those who got the email will find out on Tuesday because that date is very specific ?
@kristinpete I would say that the email didn’t mean anything except for to check the portal, however, the majority of people who said they got that email said they’d already set up a portal and check it frequently. Additionally, it straight up tells them they’ll be receiving their decision March 19th, and as we know from other emails, not all theirs are coming out then. I really hope that’s not the case, as I didn’t get the email and I’m counting down the days but honestly that’s what it sounds like.
@llaauurenn It’s funny - I got that email (to check portal access) from UCSC a couple weeks ago.
We will see.
If you’ve looked at all in the 2018 threads, however, you’ll see that all of the speculation from the applicants about who would be accepted based on the emails or what their portals were doing and when decisions would be out, etc…were wrong. It was all just speculation.
