UCSB or Rutgers? Which one is better? (International)

tOSU GIS > UCSB Geography

I think these are very different schools. Ohio State is a Big 10 powerhouse, huge campus, 50k students, and tremendous resources. UCSB is a mid-sized school, great programs but not the same fit as OSU. It is less diverse. It is extremely popular, especially on the west coast.

why Ohio State GIS > UCSB Geography

More diverse program including practical skills, strong program, Stem OPT.

Thank you for your suggestions. Now I prefer to attend OSU.

And if possible, could you explain what “strong program” here refers to (like professional rank or sth like that)? Thank you.

Good reputation/good number of faculty +tOSU has very strong students from all over OH so peer quality would be good.

Both Rutgers and UCSB are going to be stronger academically and in reputation than Ohio State. Posters here are giving you good things to consider, but please do your own research.

Based on what? tOSU is a first class research university, really not all that different than Rutgers.

In particular because OP was admitted to GIS and is international.

Ah.

It makes a HUGE difference that tOSU’s degree is STEM-OPT (beside being strong in the first place). But you are right, the 3 universities as a whole are academically equivalent so we’re talking fit rather than prestigiosity.
