Lol, TAG wasted… super trolled

Just curious, why did you guys with higher GPA tag for UCSC?

probably for specific major or was a school they wanted. if i had higher gpa i think i would of still used it for sc or irvine since i wanted to do computer game science

That’s so strange. WTH. You guys should call them or e-mail them ask what’s up. I am curious to know why they’re denying you all.

Instinct: I’m trying for UC Berkeley, Irvine, SD, and SC, as they all have either great or pretty good computer science programs and I can complete the transfer requirements for all of them within the next year. I just moved here over the summer, so I was playing by a different set of rules last semester. Berkeley has no TAG, SD wants IGETC (which I’m not doing) for TAG, so it was between Irvine and Santa Cruz. I’ve been paying more attention to SC (as it’s closer), and I had never been farther south than San Jose until this past weekend, so I wasn’t sure what Irvine was like. So I figured might as well tag my last choice school as a back-up plan. Well, so much for that.

Also, anyone who calls them about this: Post here and let us know what’s up if you can, would be nice to get an answer. :>

Or maybe someone who did get accepted, tell us your stats?

UCSC trolls here? r u kidding me. I cant believe this. it’s UCSC LOL come on.

Thats what I thought when I TAG this school as a backup but I guess not. The real trolls are the administrators.

well if more and more people start popping up with same issue than i wonder if something was broken or changed.

I just regret wasting my TAG lol. Would rather go to SJSU to UCSC anyway :)

wait, r u guys being seriously serious here? sarcasm?

Serious about getting rejected? Yes.

***? I feel sorry for u guys. It’s hard to believe this, just so hard. :/

Its funny because my phone lets me read a snippet of the email message. When I first read this

The UC Santa Cruz Admissions Office has informed us that your application to UC Santa Cruz through the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program for fall 2012 has been approved. This letter is in regard to your interest in the Computer Science major in the Jack Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz.

I was super happy because I saw APPROVED! But little did I know… The rejection was in the middle…
…

can u post the whole letter? i wanna read this. I think u get approved, but somehow u thought it was a rejection.

After carefully reviewing your application, I regret to inform you that you have not been selected for your proposed major through the TAG program. Competition for guaranteed admission in the Computer Science major is rigorous and requires that all foundation courses be completed prior to transferring with a sufficiently high GPA.

Based on the information in your TAG application, you do not meet our selection criteria. Specifically, you have not yet completed enough foundation courses with sufficient grades for us to determine your eligibility and preparation for the major.

If your course of study allows you to complete most of the foundation courses for Computer Science and you wish to be re-considered for entry into the major, I hope that you will consider applying to the campus for fall 2012 through the general admissions process. Please remember you must submit the UC application for admissions on or before November 30, 2011. For additional information on admission to a Baskin School of Engineering major as a transfer student, please visit our web site:

Best wishes to you in your academic endeavors.

Sincerely,

Jack Baskin School of Engineering

I’m pretty sure this means I was rejected.

dude, ur in for UCSC, but not in for major.

Well whats the point of going to UCSC if I can’t work towards my major. I only have 1 real major im passionate about and I don’t plan to switch.

Oh well, with all due respect, screw Santa Cruz. I’m going to University of Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry anyway :D

Admission to our Computer Science Majors is selective.

Students will only be considered if they have completed most or all of the
Foundation Courses: CMPS 12A (or CMPS 5J & CMPS 11), CMPS 12B, CMPE 16, MATH
19A, and MATH 19B. Furthermore, it must be clear that you are capable of
completing the major in a ‘reasonable period of time.’ Therefore, you are
encouraged to complete as many as possible of the lower-division courses in your
major before applying for admission to UCSC. We strongly recommend that you have
completed a year of calculus (accepted as equivalent to MATH 19A and 19B),
linear algebra, and two programming courses accepted as equivalent to CMPS 12A
(or CMPS 5J & CMPS 11) and 12B.

When there are more applicants than spaces available, priority is given to
transfers from California Community Colleges who have completed all the lower
division classes listed above and have a high GPA.

NOTE:
1. To be reviewed for admission, you must indicate a School of
Engineering (SoE) major as your first choice on your application.
2. The courses to be considered for credit for our Foundation Courses
(see above) must be covered by an articulation agreement with UCSC.
If not, you will have to submit course descriptions and syllabi for
each course to be considered.
3. IGETC: NOT RECOMMENDED for students wishing to complete this major.
Instead, we recommended you take as many technical courses as
possible, leaving general education courses to take at UCSC. This
allows a schedule of 2/3 technical courses and 1/3 general education
courses which students find to be a more reasonable load than taking
only technical courses.
