ECs: Ehhh, not outstanding. But I did stuff. I didn’t sit on my ass for 18 years. I volunteer at a VA hospital, went to a weekend language school, am involved in school, and help ESL students.
Essays: I think they were pretty good in that they encapsulated who I am as a person.
Congrats everyone!
@FinesseDolphin Yes, I think so.
@JuicyMango True. Just dissapointed anyway, I come from a big high school of about 3200 students, about 700 in my graduating class. Everything is super competitive and I’m friends with most of the people at the top of my class (I’m like 12/700) so they’re all getting regents for UCSD and I don’t like being left behind but ah well, nothing i can do now haha
@gratefulmama Accepted at Purdue and UCSD. Waiting on Brown, Rice, Pomona, and a few others
Accepted!

@HB1999 - Congratulations & good luck with the others! When does Pomona come out? We’re hoping HMC is Friday.
I suspect it’s either this week or next. I don’t have a definite date.
Goodluck to you too!
My portal says that my financial statement is unavailable… I called FAFSA to see if there was a problem with my app. They said it was flagged (randomly selected) & that UCSD will request further financial documents from me. Anyone know why/ what these documents are? PLZ HELP.
Posting for my daughter.

@enic10 If you attend a public university in California, I recommend that you not make a point of talking to your fellow students about how you got accepted even though your GPA was lower than other applicants who were waitlisted or denied. A lot of Californians are unhappy about how many spaces in the UC colleges are being given to out-of-state and international students. For example, 32% of UC Berkeley’s acceptances last year went to students who are not Californians. The person who you are talking to may have disappointments that they or their friends were denied admission to their first, second or even third choice of UC colleges. They may wonder if they or their friend may have gotten the chance to attend their dream school…if only the UC system hadn’t accepted so many out of state students. They may wonder if a UC is accepting less qualified out-of-state candidates just because they will pay tens of thousands of dollars more. Whether that is true or not, it may feel like it is possible and truly unfair. Students who have worked themselves strenuously for four years to try to get into the best colleges have a lot of emotions wrapped up in this. I just recommend that you be aware that this may be a sensitive issue.
With that said, I believe that Californians are very open to meeting and becoming friends with people of all different backgrounds, of all different ethnicities, from all different parts of the US and from around the world. You won’t find yourself feeling like an “outsider” just because you are not from California.
Congratulations on getting accepted to UCSD. It’s a great university. If you choose to attend, I hope you will very much enjoy your years at UCSD.
@maya7222 i got this too but i still have a financial aid statement.
@enic10 Tbh @SunnyByTheBay responded to your rude comment in a surprisingly positive manner.
Let me tell you a secret: Even if your parents donate 9 figures to the school you attend, YOU have to earn the grades and the degree in the end. And judging from your past performance, you’re going to be eaten alive at Stanford and even UCSD. So drop the smug attitude.
And all the “congratulations” you received from your friends and peers? I can bet you that they disrespect you and talk behind your back that you rode off the backs of your daddy and mommy.
So if I were you, I would thank your parents, take the acceptance, and go. But don’t deride other students who have to work hard to get into these schools, without daddy and mommy’s donations.
For those saying they don’t known how to calculate UC GPA just add up regular gpa points for all semester grades in A-G courses, then add up to 8 weighting points first each semester of weighted courses, then divide by total. Example for 23 A’s and 5 B’s
(234 + 53 + 8) /28 = 4.11
@SunnyByTheBay , you’re being too kind. @enic10 knows (s)he’s humble-gloating. The time for healthier-perspective-than-thou, “college decisions aren’t everything” advice is not immediately after being accepted over better-qualified applicants who were not. Fine to say such things before the release, when it’s a level playing field because nobody knows the outcome yet. Coming back to say it along with your “I got in because my application was the bomb” announcement is just self-aggrandizing. Hope this won’t be my kid’s roommate.
@enic10 ***shut your screen and live your life. !!!
The same advise applies to you. Please enjoy your “legacy admitted” seat at Stanford and do not brag about it.
Accepted
Major: Computer Science
College: Warren (Don’t know if it was my first choice, it might’ve been?)
UW GPA: 3.86
UC UW GPA: ~3.95? (The UC system is weird for GPAs, my state uses A-'s and whatnot)
W GPA: 4.45
UC W GPA: ~4.6
SAT (new): 1400 (Math: 670, R/W: 730)
SAT II: Math II: 670, USH: 710 (I swear I have some strange 670 curse for my Math SATs)
AP Classes: 12
From a large out of state public school
Extracurriculars were mediocre, only memberships to my school’s robotics club, JV tennis, tutoring.
Essays: My UC essays were by far the worst for any of my schools, writing style was okay, but they weren’t unique by any means.
