@j678jgpo thanks.
I agree with @Nhatrang on the “worth it”. We are also in NJ and my daughter isn’t interested in attending any of the state schools. We knew we wouldn’t qualify for financial aid. She received merit aid from a couple of her “safety” school but those aren’t her dream schools. With the high target or reach schools, we knew merit aid wasn’t likely but we always told our kids to work hard and do their best and they could get into great schools. I don’t want to now say “just kidding” because we don’t want to pay. Fortunately, we can afford although I do wish there was a scholarship!
@BcUcIDK My elder(2015) was in the same situation as my younger W Regent at UCSD and w/o regent at UCLA(Chancellors). When he went to UCLA for tour the first question he asked was will I be able to join research programs at UCLA , the answer he got was as they have too many students in the Grad and under Grad program usually the freshers do not get in such projects. Priority is Juniors and seniors and Grads but w regents at UCSD you get priority to join research projects from day one… Next thins he told me was Dad I am going to UCSD and did not even complete the tour…today he says he did the right thing as he have had internship with the top 5 companies and already had very good job offers…but he may do MS as he got in 5 year BS/MS program. With my younger let’s see what he decides…Hope it helps
@BcUcIDK My son got accepted a few years ago to UCSD with Regents, and to UCLA without Regents for Computer Science. He chose UCSD because of the ability to start research with a professor as a freshman, and is very pleased with how well that worked for him. He had above a 3.9 GPA when he graduated.
His younger brother, who had almost identical grades and test scores in high school, went to UCLA and has not been able to get as many A’s as his brother. We think that the competition for grades at UCLA is tougher. Since GPA is critical for med school, you would need to gauge whether you would still be near the top at UCLA or in the middle of the bell curve for grades.

@escondido2023 @BunnyBlue Thanks so much for the insight!! I have accepted the offer of admission w/ regents and will be doing premed! Can’t believe I have the privilege of turning down UCLA…Also, one more question, do you guys know whether we get priority housing as well, being a regents scholar?
@antamiii I can tell you my grandson who graduated from Sixth in 2018 was happy with his choice. Don’t believe everything folks say who haven’t been students at Sixth. Talk to the students when you tour the campus. Best wishes wherever you decide to go.
@antamiii Sixth is currently under construction, but I have no clue when they’ll be done. It’s pretty close to Price Center and the dorms/apartments are pretty nice. GEs are more on the lighter side. They are building a new Sixth college between Muir and Marshall, but probably won’t be done until you’re a second year.
I was waitlisted Friday.
Major: Structural Engineering
In-State
UC GPA: 4.1

Even though I was not expecting to be admitted, I was slightly bummed out that I did not get in. I will not accept their waitlist offer because I doubt I could get off the waitlist and I have already been admitted to Cal Poly SLO for civil engineering.
Acceptances: Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, CSULB, LSU, SDSU, SJSU, University of Arizona, UC Irvine, UC Merced, UC Riverside
Waitlists: UC Davis
Rejections: Colorado School of Mines, Purdue, UCLA, USC
Congrats to everyone who got into UCSD!
Are OOS students ever eligible for scholarships during their tenure, like after their freshman or sophomore year if they excel? Just trying to figure out a way to lighten the load just a bit.
For those of you who got accepted, did they send you an email inviting you to Triton day ?
also was this before, after, or at the same time you found out you were accepted ?
My daughter is waitlisted at UCSD. We asked a friend who was in same situation last year, and was told they did not hear back from the school at all. What is the process for the waitlist applicants?

4.12 UC GPA Very well rounded ECs (sports, community service, leadership), but I don’t think UCSD is holistic in their approach.

waitlisted daughter got an email to register for overnight stay 4/11-4/13. Not sure why
.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by the overnight stay @mango1980 . I don’t remember there being anything like this last year. I received my email for triton day after receiving my admit. You receive your badge in the mail with your physical admittance letter.
received an email this am saying the prior email was sent in error, and it was supposed to go to admitted freshmen. Here is what it said:
You are invited to live like a Triton during our FREE Overnight Program, April 11-13!
You will need your UC Application ID {UC Application ID} and email address to apply.
Application deadline: 11:59 p.m. Thursday, March 28
The Overnight Program allows you to:
Enjoy a FREE 3-day, 2-night personalized experience of UC San Diego.
Meet current students who will host you throughout the program.
Experience on-campus student resources (community centers, academic transition programs, research opportunities).
Take part in Triton Day—a fun-filled day on campus for admitted students.
Also, your daughters stats shows that UCSD is more holistic than not. If they were focused solely on stats, she would’ve gotten in. They definitely weigh the essays more than other schools.
