but,

i hear of people getting denied from ucsd, andthen into ucla, which is strange.

im oos, too. and i heard ucla is more hollistic than ucsd, ucsd runs more on the point scale. i hope i get in one

I’m trying to log in right now and it’s taking forever…

Decisions Are Up!!!

yes, decisions are up, my sis just received news she’s in! congrats to all who got in.

Denied as I said in my hypothesis. Hopefully ucla will have some good news to offer me.

Denied. I subscribe to BruinsJEW’s hypothesis.

hahah.

first rejection! :(

denied also

bastards. meh still doesnt change anything. i’m goin to UCI!

Well, I guess the OP is an idiot.

I am OOS. I got into Sixth College. Good Luck Everyone!

DyingBreed,

what are you stats? And what state do you hail from?

i believe BruinsJew’s idea of SD rejecting ppl who will go to LA is true to a certain extent. Some ppl had 4.2+ and 2300+ and they got rejected and its pretty obvious unless they are doing bio med or a major SD is really good at, they will go to LA, Cal, or a well known private. But if your stats are under the stats of ppl who are getting accepted to UCSD, i really believe your just trying to fish for something that isnt there.

flong,

i disagree with you. ucsd runs on a point system and if you don’t reach their cutoff, then your denied, which i believe is my case with my SAT scores since my GPA is pretty good for UCSD(4.1 UC GPA, and I had to drop all my AP courses jr year). UCLA runs a hollistic process, where they examine the applicant more carefully and with more consideration. Especially in my case, since I was robbed of my junior year and many months of SAT preparation, which reflects in my scores, but my scores do not reflect on my academic record. UCLA values personal challenges very highly and also they value what are you most like to contribute to their institution. I am contributing a foundation geared towards the funding for cures for childhood cancers. As a childhood cancer survivor, I feel it is my duty to aid in the finding of cures of all childhood cancers so no child will ever have to experience this tragic event in their lifetime.

I don’t think that’s true (about highly qualified applicants getting rejected). I have stats considerably above the UCSD average/median, am not doing bioengineering, and I was accepted, with several scholarships as well.

BTW, the holistic process does not change much. Even at Berkeley, it only helps if you are borderline. Having had cancer may be significant enough to have your application viewed differently, though, since that is truly unique, and I am guessing that it is very impressive that you maintained your grades, although I have never experienced anything like that.

then the theory of those who did not get into ucsd realitiscally having a shot at UCLA is not true. BruinsJew UCSD gives points for the things UCLA examines holistically. If you went through a tramatic event in hs, you get 500 points! if u have good extra curriculars u get 300 points, u get points for essays, points for low income, points for taking a rigorous course. UCSD is points but they give you points for alot of different things and im sure you got 500 points for ur event. But the fact is, your OOS status and lower stats might have been ur doom at UCSD.

My only lower STAT would be my SATs. I think I should get points for not being able to take my 4 AP courses I was signed up for, and that’s why my UC-GPA isn’t a 4.3-4.4.

doode getting 500 points is tremendous! thats like adding 500 points to ur SAT 1 and going from a 1600 to a 2100.

People who haven’t been sick don’t understand. 500 measely points is nothing dude. If I got a higher HPA and SATs, it would be like 1000 more points, not 500 pts. So don’t give me that 500 pts business. You just don’t understand how angry I am. It’s not like I wanted to only get a 1910 on my SATs, and only take 2 AP’s my whole high school career and not do any JV/Varsity sports. All of this was planned for my junior, but unfortunately God had a different plan for me.

are you going to appeal bruinsjew?

Just play the cards you were dealt, maybe it’s actually a good thing, that you get to go somewhere else and try something you didn’t consider, out of your comfort zone.
