UF FinAid

@ufhopeful24 I have no idea if I received the Florida Student Assistance Grant. I am assuming we are going to find out when we receive our financial aid from UF, which I have yet to get.

Mrs. Fooks’s letter is twistedly funny in that you can’t be new “no money”…you have to be old “no money” to receive FOS award.

@lizard what? Im not quite sure at what you are trying to get at…?

“The program is designed from students from historically low economic circumstances and not for students whose families may have had better economic circumstances in the past but may now be struggling economically due to job loss or downsizing, divorce etc.”

Umm… a person who has been economically struggling his/her whole life should be put in the same category as a person who hasn’t? Ok.

The scholarship is funded for a certain purpose, so who cares if its not given to people who are considered, as you put it, “new no money”? There are a lot of people who are qualified for FOS and not enough funds to give out. There’s even a chance that those who have long standings as low-income may not get the scholarship. So if UF wants to decide that they aren’t giving it out to a certain group, who cares? At least some students get something.

By the way, I sound mean but I’m really not trying to be. So, lizard, sorry if i come off a bit harsh

I’m not trying to be mean and I’m not laughing at anyone. When I read the explanation made by UF’s Mrs. Fooks it just struck me in a way that had me chuckle to myself a little. Sometimes when you want to cry, it is better to laugh, and to grin and bear it.

Am I the only one who has yet to receive their financial aid package for fall?

All I have up is my Pell Grant. When I spoke with someone earlier this week, they told me that everything should be completed by next week. So I’d look Monday or Tuesday for it to be complete.

@UMcane I submitted my fasfa back in Febuary, and still havent my Financial Aid package for fall.

Same, I have nothing for financial aid yet (not finalized is the message I get on the web page), and I submitted my FAFSA Jan 31.

My FAFSA was submitted January 6th and received by UF by January 20th and I have yet to get anything. Are they doing it by when you turned them in or what?

I still have no Financial Aid info either.

I thought it was first come first served, and that the earlier the better, but who knows.

@abdc when did you turn in your FAFSA?

@UMcane3435 Check to see if you are missing any documents.

I got my award today.

10K in grants. 6K in loans. 3K in fed-work-study.

So does this mean I didn’t get FOS? Or is there still a chance? Does anyone have UF scholarships up yet?

^I think it would say it on there if you were getting the FOS. Not everyone has got it yet though, they are still processing them.

What is your 10k in grants? Does that include BF and Pell or what? Also when did you submit your FAFSA?

Pell 5300, Bright Futures 3750, FL Assistance Grant 1455

FAFSA was submitted Jan 31st.

Man I still dont have my award. This is exactly what it says:
Your financial aid awards for the 2011-2012 award year (Fall 2011, Spring 2012, Summer 2012) have not been finalized. You will receive an email notification when an award has been made.

And I everything is turned in. It says that “You have no missing documents or requirements on your file at this time.” So Idk what they are going by; it can’t be when you turned it in because mine was turned in January 6th!

Only 163 people were awarded the Florida Opportunity Scholarship. There are still 237 spots available. Add the Florida Opportunity Scholarship on Facebook.
