Plans for UF still up in air

UF President Kent Fuchs offered the first sign of students’ return last week during a telephone town hall with Gainesville leaders. Through enough testing and screening provided through UF Health doctors, he said he’s optimistic students and employees can come back in August.

He warned that sweeping furloughs and a $40 million budget loss will come if they do not.

UF has also created 11 task forces to come up with safety guidelines for how students and employees can return to various parts of campus life. Under consideration are things like high-volume testing for everyone on campus, social distancing in dorms, financial impacts and fall instruction.
