my son was accepted at clemson, uga and auburn. they all have their strengths academically, of course. my son is a freshman at auburn and has absolutely loooooved it! he has full tuition, received a macbook pro, has a $4,000 travel abroad stipend and some other smaller scholarships. his dorm is 2 years old and there is definitely new construction going on.

of course the school matters academically, however it’s also the fit/atmosphere for the student. what always made me roll my eyes (behind closed doors, of course) was when someone from uga (with decent stats, but not qualify for the honors program or any academic scholarships) would act like auburn was a step down. (and my son’s stats far-exceeded that person, but we’re not the type to put it in anyone’s face) i strongly feel it comes down to what the student does with what they have!

my niece, who went to GCSU, is now earning a PhD in genetics at vanderbilt…no tuition and her apartment is covered, too. it’s really up to the kid’s motivation and amazing doors can open that the majority of students never even knew existed at their school.
