UIC-GPPA.

@Midhelper‌ Yeah, that is what I’ve heard about Urbana as well. Do you know anything about the Rockford campus?

D got M1 Urbana and M2-4 Peoria

@kennedyiceit I can find out all sorts of details at the Rockford location as I know several people who not only are in the program but in the administration/faculty as well. Ask away, give me a few days & I can get back to you.

One thing I know is that it is a more down to earth atmosphere with everyone helping each other. A few years ago they started changing the curriculum and delivery model which seems to working out quite well.

Thank you so much @Midhelper‌ !! And @Cytomom‌ , do you think your daughter is going to go?

@kennedyiceit…D is definitely going GPPA…she went to the Friday/Sat thing & loved UIC! She spent time with a freshman GPPA student as well as time in JST and also attended a chemistry class. She is convinced it is the right place for her. She was happy about the Urbana/Peoria placement and said she would see how the next 3 years go…if she wants to apply out or not…not worrying about that now. D does not have an interst in academic medicine at this point…she put the name prestige thing of other schools behind her and is ready to go develop herself and enjoy college! Good luck to you…hope you settle in soon!

Hey guys, can someone please post the prerequisites for UIC GPPA medicine that they received in the mail??

OK here is some info about the Rockford location from a student who has been there at least 3 years:

“In Rockford our classes are taught by professors but recorded so available online. Rockford really emphasizes primary care the first few years with all electives saved til 4th year pretty much. You have to really seek out opportunities to pursue specialties, but not impossible (I am going into Radiology). I liked the Rockford program and feel I got a good education, but I cant really comment too much on how it compares to other programs, except that I wouldn’t do all four years in Urbana unless you want to do academic med. The rumor is Rockford is more clinical and Peoria is more classroom, but I am not sure how true that is. Most frustrating thing for me was that majority of my clinical primary care experience was taught by nurse practioners rather than physicians. Best part is the people; the staff are very nice and helpful. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I don’t think you can make a wrong choice.”
Hope this helps!

thanks @Midhelper‌ !!

just wondering, has anyone gotten info about gppa scholarships beside the initial message saying everyone accepted was considered?

I emailed last week about it and was told that 1 scholarship is given out amongst all the GPPA students (med, pharmacy, dentistry, etc) and that person will be notified at then end of this month.

@Cytomom‌ I wonder if they will wait until everyone confirms their acceptance.

sorry UIC GPPA students! I won’t be joining you this fall at UIC, instead I’ll be going to UChicago! Good luck to everyone at their future homes!

Can some one post stats for UIC honor college.

Can some one post their UIC Honor stats. My daughter is planning to apply.

I would contact the Honors College and ask the stats of the upcoming class. You will get a wide range of answers here that could be misleading to you!

I did send them e-mail hopefully they reply.

I’m wondering how essential is it for one to have research experience to look good for GPPA? I’ve shadowed physicians, volunteered at my hospital, etc etc. The only thing that I see “missing” from my experience is that I haven’t done research at a university over the summer. Would this sabotage my chances - or do I just have equal chances as somebody who has had research experience?

turtllesturtles…I am a parent of a newly admitted GPPA student. Research experience is never a detriment but is not a requirement or “must have”. I would be careful about “looking good” for GPPA-the committee sees right through those students who are simply cultivating a good looking resume. Take the time to understand yourself, your motivations and figure out what makes you, you! The essays are incredibly important-show yourself in them.

Can anyone provide insight into the interview process? What is it like? Is it one on one? what kind of things do they ask?

@kennedyiceit what did you end up choosing? I’m between uchicago and gppa and I love uchicago but want the safety of uic gppa. Do you like where you ended up and what would you recommend?
