Hey guys, I’m a little late to this but I thought I still might as well share…
Status: Accepted
Major: Finance-- was also invited to apply to Business Honors and James Scholars which is exclusive to top 10% of applicants. I’ll take it lmao
GPA: 3.78 UW, 4.07 W-- my past school (had to transfer for senior yr) was one of those STEM boarding schools so very rigorous academics = no pretty GPA (at least for me)
Coursework Difficulty: only 5 APs total (12th grade- lit, gov, and stats, 11th grade- apush 4, lang 4) but every academic class I’ve taken since 10th grade has been at least honors. also math wise, i went through differential and integral calc (equivalent of AP Cal AB but my school didn’t offer it in AP format) & AP Stats. trimester schedule, if that matters.
ACT: 32 (E-36,M-28,R-34,S-31)
Residence: OOS(Alabama)-- i feel like this was defo a factor
ECs: This is definitely where my application was most compelling. I had 10 that were very strong and diverse. I wont list them all unless needed
Essay: honestly i feel like it was pretty mid.
Overall I think a huge factor of my acceptance is the fact that I’m a black male. That’s not to say that I don’t deserve it, just that I’ve got it a bit easier. Shoutout to all my asians out there, ik yall have got it rough

Why you think you were accepted: I’m a stereotypical CS student
Where else were you accepted: Purdue EA, UC Berkeley RD
@firetiger77 no, UIUC does not yield protect for CS; they are ranked 3rd for CS and have their pick of top applicants
@rgcenterville its ok! UIUC defers a TON of kids, and accepts most of them. My brother was deferred oos ME a couple years ago and got in (with a 1340!)
congrats to everyone who got in; i’ll add my stats too
Accepted: CS in Grainger College of Engineering (1st choice)
Also received $10k/year (for 4 years, total $40k) merit scholarship
OOS Asian
GPA: 4.0 UW
SAT: 1570 (single sitting)
Course Rigor: 17 AP+Dual-enrollment courses at T100 university
ECs: Don’t want to get too specific but definitely the best part of my application; you can see my post history for a couple extra details on this, but I had ZERO CS ECs
Awards: pretty basic stuff but i made it sound impressive
Essays: Trash IMO. I had no CS ECs or experience at all, it was a ton of careful wording and focusing on my interest in STEM+engineering
Son got admitted in systems and design though first choice was comp engineering …How good is systems and design from UIUC…would it hold more value than say doing a comp eng from U Mass Amherst
