UMD vs Purdue CS

I ended up choosing UMD. I visited both and knew UMD was the right one for me. The campus feels like you are in the “city” because of so many restaurants and spots to go to and everyone be hitting up DC on the weekends. The people were also very nice and I had a great time. I also liked their CS program a lot more and the flexibility to graduate in 3 years (if you have the AP CSA 5 credit). The CS program seemed more supportive and I just liked the vibe.

For Purdue, the environment was the one that knocked off points for me ( I also have to fly which I think is a hassle). However, I loved the people there. Everyone seemed so motivated and goal orientated. They do have a lot more tracks in CS than UMD, and a lot more interesting clubs I have to say. (the robots are so cool)

I think environment was the main factor in deciding for me. I also visited VT and UVA which was similar environment to Purdue and it was not for me either. I was just seeing cows and horses, then suddenly I see a campus town? lol

Driving to UMD it was more “lively” like city life feel and when I entered the campus, I didn’t even realize because of how “city” it feels. I hope you know what I mean…

They both will have big price differences (if you stay 4 years), but for the DC location that may help me for future internships/ jobs/ connections, I feel like it can be worth it.

I may be biased bc im from the east, but please visit both and conclude!
