UMD vs UTD (for computer science)

Thank you so much for your input! Update – I just got an email this morning with the invitation to take the CS^2 exam. If I end up being offered admission to CS^2, I think I’ll be leaning towards UTD over UMD. I went back to UTD to take a more detailed ‘tour’ led by a family friend who attends, and I loved it! I even got to talk to a professor and some PhD research students there. Near-full-ride + Collegium V + CS^2 would be hard to turn down

Hi all – just wanted to share that I got a $70,000 President’s Scholarship from UMD, which is making me rethink again. I really like what I’ve seen from UMD, between their communication with admitted students and their initiatives to support women in CS. I’ve also chatted with a few OOS students currently attending UMD for CS.

I will be attending an Admitted Students Day soon and touring the whole campus as well as the CMNS department. It will certainly be difficult to make a decision! Thank you to everyone who offered advice and gave me detailed information

:sparkles::confetti_ball:Wow, that’s amazing and it does change the equation :fireworks::tada: or at least gives you more to consider. Does the scholarship come with a special program ?

Is this per year or over four years ($17.5k per year)?

Unfortunately not, and I didn’t get invited to any of UMD’s honors programs either. However, I’m still thrilled to receive this scholarship! I didn’t think I would get one.

$17.5k per year. Assuming that I can maintain the required GPA and number of credits to receive this amount each year, the scholarship will end up covering a little more than one year of OOS cost of attendance.

In that case, it’s still terrific but in my opinion

Win out

Hello again! I wanted to let you know how I ended up. I got waitlisted for CS^2 as the exam didn’t go as well as I’d hoped. I visited UMD for a few days in March and chatted with current students and even a professor. I fell in love with UMD once I spent a whole day walking around and familiarizing myself with the campus and amazing opportunities there. I officially committed last weekend – go Terps!! :turtle:
