They already started and are going until end of next week.

Oh wow, so invitations for interview were extended on February 5th and interviews are this week and next week (2/12 to 2/16 and 2/19 to 2/23)?

When do they usually announce the decisions?

Yes, they came out with invites very late this year and next to no lead time.

In the past, sometimes 4-6 weeks advance notice but over the years, time between invites and interviews seems to get shorter and shorter.

Wow, that’s really unfair to applicants. The MMI (Multiple Mini Interview) system of interviews at UMKC started back in the 2012-2013 application cycle, so UMKC has had it for a while, compared to what it used to be with two traditional interviews, but it does take time to prepare. It’s not something you just want to jump into without any prior preparation.

My thoughts exactly.

We attended the webinar on Monday. They said over 100 students interviewed for the 10 out of state seats. Not sure if I misheard this? Do you know how many OOS students are interviewed?

You can see the UMKC BA/MD FAQs here:
https://med.umkc.edu/bamd/faqs/

Approximately 350 students participate in the interview process. From that group, an incoming class of about 105 – 110 students is selected, with 60-65 students admitted from the state of Missouri, 30-35 students admitted from the regional states (Arkansas, Kansas, Illinois, Nebraska or Oklahoma) and 10-15 students admitted from out-of-state.

In the past, they’ve interviewed about 80 students from OOS for 10-15 OOS matriculant spots, so 100 students now sounds about right. As you can imagine, this group is the most competitive group solely just due to the numbers, compared to the in-state/resident spots.

Thanks. DD interviewed this week as an OOS student. Fingers crossed! Competition seems pretty high as you mentioned for OOS.

Best of luck to her!!! I’m glad that it was done virtually again this year so that it saves students and their parents money in terms of travel costs. If you have any questions about the program in terms of details, I’ll try my best to answer them for you or to at least lead you in the right direction to find that information. It can sometimes be hard to find that information as a student coming from out-of-state.

My son also interviewed for UMKC OOS.

@Roentgen, We toured the campus a few months back and met parents and students who swore by the program. But I also see a lot of negativity in the forums. Can you please comment?

So I think it depends on what you define as negativity. Keep in mind that the College Confidential UMKC BA/MD thread has been going for about 20 years now from the very first post in November 2004 to now, so some things have changed while other things have remained the same. There are many factors that go into evaluating a particular BA/MD program and the medical school that is with it. That can be hard to do (especially if you’re out-of-state) when you’re doing college admissions at the same time. How you evaluate the BA/MD program depends on what your expectations and goals are in terms of curriculum, eventual specialty, whether you’re in-state/regional/out-of-state, etc. I think there are many resources available to find out the concrete details about the UMKC BA/MD program – the website, webinars, school tours, etc.

College Confidential, which started back in 2001, is really to give you the background about the program behind the website, webinars, school tours, etc., things that may not be directly talked about on parent and student tours (hence the “Confidential” in the name) and where parents and students can ask questions that they normally may not do so on webinars and tours due to embarrassment or niceties or the subjective feeling of not wanting to lower their kid’s chance at acceptance.

Here we can answer the questions you have or at least point you in the right direction to get the answer you want. BA/MD tuition now is MUCH higher, especially if you’re out-of-state, so I think it behooves applicants and their parents to research well the positive aspects, as well as the negative aspects, of this type of accelerated 6 year program.

Hi! I’m a Junior in high school, and I’m beginning to make plans for my life in the future and decide what I want to do. I want to become a doctor and I’ve been researching all about medical school, and I stumbled across the 6-year BA/MD program at UMKC. I’ve done a ton of research for the program too but I can’t get enough information to help me decide if it’s the best path for me. I want to know if it’s really worth going through all the hassle of a BA/MD program and I want to know everything about it to make the best decision!

Thank you!

When are UMKC decisions expected?

Hey @Betsi_Asmare, with respect to whether the BA/MD program is really worth going through or not will be an individual decision and will be different for everyone. Do you have specific questions or things that you’re concerned about with the program? Are you in-state, regional, or out-of-state?

Congratulations  :dancing_women: :tada: :piñata: :mirror_ball: :clinking_glasses:to all the UMKC BA/MD Year 6s and MD only students (Class of 2024) who found out whether they matched into residency today. They will find out where exactly they matched on Friday, March 15th, and you can go here to see the livestream of Match Day at UMKC: https://med.umkc.edu/MatchDay/

I’m in-state. My questions are mainly about how much stress will this put on me regarding school work and trying to keep up. Is there anything I should do now to prepare myself? What should I include in my application and/or resume to make myself a better candidate? Will I have a life if I do the program?

Thank you!

One last thing, if I decide to drop out at any point, will I be able to attend or be put into the same level I was in for “normal” medical school? Or I guess what will happen if I decide to drop out? Will I be able to apply to medical school the traditional way?
