Undecided science major, want science research, maybe d3 swim

Definitely for most of the criteria - including good FA -, although probably not for swimming.

Wesleyan has a tuition-free, “fifth year” master’s degree program for seniors in the middle of funded research projects.

One thing I’d be careful about is treating D3 as a single swimming level. With your breaststroke times, I’d look at the actual rosters at each school rather than starting with division. A 1:01/2:12 can look pretty different depending on the team and conference.

Since you already have Wesleyan, Grinnell and Carleton in the mix, I’d probably build out the list from there and compare where your times would put you on each current roster, then layer in the science/research and cost pieces. That should give you a better idea of where swimming might actually help versus schools
where it probably won’t move the needle much.

In that you are undecided from among the sciences, consider schools with an available geosciences department. With this option, you would have a choice of interesting electives, along with the potential for a major or minor in the field, should your interests develop along these lines.

Using swimming for admission support at prestigious or “highly rejective colleges” is a pretty efficient market. For the most part, if a school is hard to get into but the coach has pull, they can get good recruits. With your ACT scores, there might not be too many schools where you would need help from a coach AND the coach would use an admission slot or pull for someone with your times. This doesn’t mean there wouldnt be a spot on the team for you if you get in.

You said you were interested in using swimming to help you get in, but you didn’t say whether you were interested in swimming in college. These are two different things, and will affect where you might be interested.
