illuminus, you must understand ONE thing about these review sites: the people with the problems are the ones who are motivated to write the reviews. If you’re an average, happy student at UD, why would you waste your time writing a review on that site? I know I haven’t.

That being said… I read quite a few of those reviews and I’ll respond to a few of the comments.

There is a lack of diversity. This is completely true and is one of my main problems with the university. There are many rich white NY/NJ/PA/MD who drive their BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, and Volvos and have little sense of value. However, there are also many normal middle class students who are great and many of these rich white kids are actually really good people. So don’t judge them.

-There has been a major crack down on drinking and noise violations. You know the rules, don’t break them. I was written up under ridiculous circumstances and I’m a bit bitter but you can bet I won’t make the same mistake twice.

-As for the issue of some classes being easy(I read one comment about how you don’t have to take essay tests and it’s all about taking scan tron tests and just copying), there are classes like this at every college. I’m in engineering and this is not the case. Easy? Hardly! I do however feel like some of our liberal arts courses are easy but I’m coming from engineering courses. I take an upper level history course that I feel is easy and I hear history majors complaining about how hard the course is and it makes me question how difficult their program is. I don’t know what else to say about this comment.

-Crime? What crime? Seriously, I don’t know where these people who complain about the crime rates are from, but I don’t see the crime as an issue AT ALL. If you’re a girl, don’t walk home alone at 4am drunk. Use common sense.

Okay so those are the big issues that I saw in the reviews but let me close with my overall views of UD. I picked UD because of the scholarships I was offered. Woud I do it again… maybe. I feel like you either LOVE UD or you HATE UD. I feel like the social life is becoming more important that academics and I think UD may be seeing this as well and it is why they are cracking down on parties/drinking/etc. There are lots of great people at UD but I don’t see that the majority of the students have the same academic drive that I do and that they are here to party and have fun and just happen to get an education on the side. I was expecting a more academically focused student body. The engineering program is excellent and the students are excellent. If it weren’t for the great profs and advisors in this department I would have left UD. I have a great group of friends here and am pretty involved but I can’t deny some of the complaints that people make about the school.

… my post seems negative but UD is a good school you just have to decide what kind of environment you want to be in.
