United Airlines makes girls change outfits

@marvin100

What makes it arbitrary and indefensible. The affected not LIKING the policy, the affected not making themselves aware of the policy does not negate its validity.

What does UA get…maybe just a few passengers each flight that don’t look like they just rolled out of the steam room of their gym. Maybe just a few less uncovered legs (an butts - given the length of some ‘normal’ short).

Maybe the folks in first and business appreciate flying with other well dressed folks and will continue to support the company which affords them this opportunity.

Not everything is a civil rights/gender/oppression/SJW issue. Sometimes it’s just a ‘rule’…which seems to have become a nasty four letter word.

@busdriver11 I think you are abused, oppressed, discriminated against and you need to act NOW…what a horrible thing to have to adhere to a dress code in a jump seat. :slight_smile:

Along these lines. I think surgeons should be able to show up in their golf attire. Nurses should be able to wear tights and tunics. Heck, your waiter should be able to come in off the beach in swim trunks and SPF 50 and go ahead and serve you - we live in a beach town.

Social media and the internet brings to mind Churchill’s statement, that a lie or falsehood travels halfway around the world before the truth can even get its pants on…in this day and age you might modify this to be they travel around the world for several days before the truth gets its pants on, and as a result when the truth finally gets dressed the lie is holding court no matter how nude it is:)

I understand the issue. I didn’t need to read 11 pages of other people’s opinions. I know it’s United’s policy. I just think it’s a dumb policy.

These people aren’t working and it’s silly to equate what one is required to wear while on the job with this issue. I am not implying that United doesn’t have a right to this policy or the right to enforce it. I just think it’s a silly policy.

You got it right, dietz!

Bet emily and marvin would have a completely different take if the non revs were wearing red “Make America Great” hats and t-shirts. :wink:

^If people want to look dumb that’s their business not mine.

Does anyone think United wouid have gotten even one complaint about what these girls were wearing on the plane if they had been allowed to board?

Speaking of dumb, here’s some leggings that would be entertaining to see on a flight. :smiley:

^^I actually think that some of the leggings with prints are quite ok for running or some type of gym activity. I would not wear them on a plane though. The leggings with chains, naked butt, water stain, etc. are not good on anyone - regardless of the activity or occasion. :slight_smile:

I wear leggings a lot, but unless I’m running my butt is covered by a longer top/dress. Unless you are very young, the butt in leggings look is not a good one. If my employer said that when they are paying for me to travel, I shouldn’t wear leggings, I would not have a problem with that.

Yup…it’s been an interesting, and amusing read. If my employer says all I have to do to ride for free is to follow a business casual dress attire…then I’ll gladly do it or I’ll find an employer without a dress code. Much ado about nothing. People don’t get all huffy when employers have business casual dress codes so why on earth would people get all wacked out when United has a dress code for employees and their free flying friends and family? They aren’t telling John Q Public not to wear leggings/jeggings/yogapants/runningtights…even though 80% of the population could do well with setting aside the revealing pieces of clothing. People just jumped the shark on this one.

@doschicos! I can’t unsee that! Thanks for nothin! :open_mouth:

Despite all the kerfuffle this incident has caused, the entire story can be summed up in one small excerpt from @momofthreeboys’ post above.

Not too hard to understand, and hardly objectionable.

I was just going to say the same thing, @busdriver11. Ooh, my eyes!

@“Cardinal Fang” How is it sexist? Was a man also wearing leggings allowed on the flight?

@marvin100 Shorts, if they meet certain length, can be worn. I don’t see this as a double standard at all.

So, speaking of concerns about sexism/discrimination- yay for the womens’ hockey league!! http://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/19026627/usa-hockey-us-women-national-team-reach-agreement-avoid-boycott. They have faced discrimination in salary, travel housing and such for a long time. Glad their voices were heard.

Good for those hockey players. They deserve more.

Hey, you know what’s really unfair, and sexist discrimination? The fact that in public, women can’t walk around without a shirt or something covering their chest. What’s with that? All summer, I see guys running around, in the forest, on the beach, sometimes just walking on the sidewalk. No shirt. Do you ever see a woman? No, she’d probably be ticketed or arrested, certainly stared at. Sexism at work! :smiley:

Not everywhere, @busdriver11 -

Oh jeez, Marvin! :open_mouth:

Hey, you should see our summer solstice parade in Fremont. Every pervert in Seattle gets naked, paints his private parts, and bikes or skates through the crowd. We quickly learned you don’t want to be sitting down. Some things just shouldn’t have stripes. :wink:

To me, this has been an odd discussion. Some of us think this is a pointless policy, while others seem (to me, anyway) to defend the policy not on the grounds that it makes sense, but that United can impose this policy if it wants to. For what it’s worth, I, personally would not care one bit if nonrev passengers were subject to the exact same clothing standards as other passengers.

Anyone remember the infamous Air New Zeland commercial? If their employees are allowed to wear paint over their birth outfit while they are working… would you want to sit next to one of them flying non-rev? :wink:
