United / Continental merger really UA takeover :(

Pizzagirl, I think the fleet of jets UA uses for international flights is different than the fleet used primarily for domestic travel. Occasionally I have had the good fortune to fly in business class on UA flights heading to Europe w/ a stop in Chicago. The flights originated in Denver allowing folks (like me) whose final destination was ORD to be upgraded to business class for that leg of the trip. Those jets are wonderful for first class passengers and very nice for the folks in business class. Rarely can you find such nice accommodations on UA’s domestic fleet.

Yes, Continental’s jets are older but until a few years ago they were well maintained and clean, as was the gate areas and Presidents Clubs.

I’ve had good and bad experiences on both of these airlines. I don’t see them as different.

Continental has installed flat bed seats on all 777s and the 757s that are transatlantic. They are gradually rolling them out to the 767s, which is what it sounds like Pizzagirl had. The old 767s are what they use to/from Brazil. Seatguru.com is your best friend in determining what flight to take based on seating.
