University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

Melissa - I just read from Melissa Johnson in the honors group that admissions may have new additional levels of admissions scholarships this year. Any scoop?

Congrats! How did you find out? And do you mind sharing what date you submitted your waiver? Trying to gauge where my son may be on the list. Thanks!

Also reading that the portal to register for Florida Days should go live on Thursday.

Congrats! I saw you submitted the waiver in September. DD is
on the waitlist with an October 15 submittal.

Scholarships are done by the Financial Aid Office but I did hear there were working on adding some additional scholarships this year.

Can you post the link or name of the honors thread? Please?

There is a facebook group for the honors college:

Yes, the facebook group linked just before my post.

Thank you!

if you are there for a full day I would try to eat one meal at Bolton dining hall to get the vibe, and maybe a 2nd meal downtown somewhere.
and definitely walk around the North Campus, which is very pretty.

Can anyone share any additional information about the 9-credit summer requirement? More specifically, OOS students personal experience in terms of how hard it was for them to complete. I have read the information on the website, but I would like to hear about others’ personal experiences.

Towards the end of September.

I have heard great things about FSU, but I would say that here in the Northeast, UGA has a stronger academic reputation and has been getting more and more popular. It’s probably getting put into the same bucket as Wisconsin and Maryland, with UF being a notch above only because of the USNews ranking. I don’t know if many (any?) kids would pick it over Michigan, which still rules the roost up here, but for kids who are ready to escape the cold, it’s def become an alternative to Wisco and Maryland and Ohio State. I think out west UGA also has a pretty strong academic reputation. If anything, I would say the reputation is lagging behind how good it is, and the hype someone mentioned about UGA should be bigger, not smaller.

How do you know ‘lower performers’ are placed ahead of them? Someone with a lower gpa may have an acceptance but the rigor might be more, the sports harder, the community service outstanding. That is the purpose of holistic admission.

They are just looking for a reason to be upset. Don’t give it a second though. They likely won’t listen to a rational explanation.

That is a rule throughout the Florida university System. Student basically takes 3 classes over the typical three summers of a four-year course of study. What aspect are you thinking that might make this different or more challenging from an OOS student perspective?

I assume that most people take that class online right? In that case, it would not matter OOS vs. otherwise.

Thanks for responding. I was planning on one class each summer. Being from OOS I need to consider housing etc.

  1. Is there campus housing? Or do I have to go off campus?
  2. Is there a good selection of courses to select from?
  3. Are they more general education type courses, or does each department offered require classes for each major?
  4. Are there a decent number of online options so that I don’t have to find accommodation for three summers?
  5. Or is it better to do all three in one summer?

I looked at the course schedule and most classes seem to be online during summer. It can be a great opportunity to get a minor in something. Most minors are 5 classes and you can get 3 out of the way over the summer.
