University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

If that were the case, I wish they would have an exception for students that are tranferring 9 or more credits in from AP/CLEP etc.

I kind of got the feeling they wanted the extra revenue. Plus they want to get you out of there as quick as they can because there’s so much demand and if they can get you out of there in three years, even better
I don’t think that was a bad thing by them. They’re just trying to serve as many people as possible and harvest enough revenue to keep things fairly cheap.

This explanation does make total sense. They just want people in and out. That also explains why they have such a generous test score for credit policy.

Are admitted people able to access info on this page about Admitted Student Events. They sent in out in an email today, but for me it has no dates or anything. https://my.admissions.ufl.edu/portal/ASE

In fact it’s close to 70% at his school so this year they just made it free for everyone.

“Taking his talents OOS to a target school”???

This is just getting weirder. As mentioned, he has a chance to stay “close to home” at some good schools, stop with the entitlement. You actually emailed the Governor?

There was probably something on his app that made them take pause- while his situation isn’t unique it’s a bit unusual but there is almost always a reason the student didn’t get accepted.

Super excited to be admitted to UF from OOS. Curious why no one talks about the online classes? Why are so many of the business classes online? Journalism apparently too. Doesn’t this concern anyone? I don’t want online classes.

There are lots of in-person ones as well. You just have to plan carefully using the course listing. It’s probably best to make a list of the ones you want with class section numbers so you can get signed up for the correct sections at preview with your advisor.

You call it entitlement. I call it deserving.

UF receives state funding so I thought it was important that they know the kind of students that were getting turned away.

Some students like online. Some are not aware how many classes are online. Some programs are more online than others. For others, too much online is a dealbreaker.

My S24 was accepted to UF, but the online program in his major is a turn off for him so he likely will choose to go elsewhere. But that is a personal decision and others will think other factors are more important.

I recommend looking at the core/major requirements and cross reference actual classes offered on the registrar site, which shows whether classes are offered online or in person and, if in person, class size caps. Some students find that information helpful

You have been receiving a lot of attacks for speaking up about UF’s denial of your high stats student. Ignore the haters. You have every right to be upset.
Looks like he does have some good in state options. Before giving up bright futures and scholarships see how the schools that have offered scholarships are for the major he wants.

I know it’s of little comfort, but I know of students with almost perfect SATs, etc, who were turned away from our flagstate schools, and looking on the board here, there were OOS students who were accepted with much lower scores. I know it doesn’t ease the frustration, but unfortunately, it happens in all states. Have faith that he is destined for greater things.

But were his prior out-of-state high school courses counted as “honors” or weighted for UF’s GPA recalculation (+0.5 for honors, +1.0 for AP/IB/AICE)?

If not, then his UF-recalculated GPA may have been “only” around 4.0, which is significantly lower than UF’s middle 50% range of 4.4-4.6.

Does anyone know how much of this really happens? For business or other majors? Can it be avoided? I’m not a huge fan of online classes.

They only have a few dates in April - and unfortunately, it doesn’t work for us. Otherwise I would have loved for my daughter to attend.

My kid hasn’t done his yet but they do offer sone interesting summer international programs you can use to fill the requirement.

No March dates?

Question - can admitted students change their major? Are there any stipulations or requirements? Thanks in advance.

Nope - I didn’t see any. I was really hoping for dates at the end of March (during my kid’s spring break). I sent an email asking if they will have any other dates. If I hear back, I will report back here.
