Thanks. She has a higher GPA than I do, but I have a slightly higher test score, so it looks like GPA was most important. I don’t think the scholarship process was holistic, so it should be just academic stuff.
You can take it at home??? I’ll have to have my daughter look at what Clep tests she thinks she can do. So Clep exams - super easy and saving money sound like a REALLY good combination! Also, I think there might be a way to get foreign language credits (not via AP exam - but some other way - I will need to look into it). Oh - and another way to save money is to not get a meal plan. I feel like a lot of Florida schools (FSU and UCF) say the same thing - it is a waste of money.
I did see a Florida college admissions counselor mention that the merit awards are not strictly based on stats, but holistically (kind of like admissions). I wish I knew what they focused on.
We just got scholarship notification from UF. $4000 per year out of state.
Anyone else got their notifications yet?
I thought it won’t come till early March.
Yep at home, but you have to have a windows computer that is powerful enough. They do have a proctor and everything. Definently have her look into it and check out the modernstates website above. They have a course that teaches everything (taught by college profs) and then they pay the 100 dollar exam fee! Clep does have foregin language exams as well for certain languages. Check out this for this list of exams: Exam Topics – CLEP | College Board and this for the clep tests UF will take: Exam Credit < University of Florida.
I heard about the meal plan being bad as well. Not planning on that. Will go buy and make my own food.
Everyone got their scolarships today as well. Unclear if there will be more or not, but it was definently unexpected.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but for a teenager, you are really on top of it.
haha, my daughter waitlisted by UNC, looks like they have similar profile, she just got the mail for the gator scholarship from UF. She is applying premed, we stay in India, even though she was born in North Carolina, she is also legacy for Duke (her first choice)
Be sure to look in the UF Catalog to make sure we award credit before you take your exams. We give credit for most but not all CLEP.
Yep i’ve been checking it, i’m just doing the ones that match my major (micro/macro, calc) as well as a couple others for elective credit.
Wait - I was just looking at the passing scores required for the Clep - it seems like most exams only require a 50! Is that 50 out of 100? Did you look at FSU’s policy to accepting credits? If so, is their policy as generous as UF’s?
It’s actually 50 out of 80 which equates to about 60%+ of the questions correct depending on the difficulty of the specific test form you get. It’s a scaled score, there is normally more than 80 questions. Most are 120 questions. FSU has an even more generous policy!
That’s good to know. So you basically just need to get the equivalent of a D to get the CLEP credit! I’m definitely going to have my daughter take a few of these courses and maybe exceed the 45 in case anything wonky happens with any of her credits. Thanks for passing the information along!
Of course. It seems like a great program that is not very well known. If you want, I can DM you some resources outside of that website I have been using for studying.
Once my daughter gets herself together (b/c she is not as organized as you are), I may ask you about those study sources! Thank you so much! Your mother must be super proud of you!
Just let me know whenever you need them! Hopefully these exams work out great for her if she decides to pursue them.
Is signing the housing agreement binding? Is there any benefit to filling it out now as opposed to filling it out in a few weeks if I already put down the housing deposit in October?
I’ve been asking the same thing!
Just reread my contract. At the bottom it says “time is of the essence in this agreement.” That makes me think it is better to sign early, but not totally sure what that means.
