The general application is used - Merit is evaluated among the students being offered admission.

Do individual admissions officers have enough pull to get one applicant in? A girl in my daughter’s OOS school is saying her family knows someone in UF admissions and they told her she can get in if she shows demonstrated interest, so she’s visiting this weekend. There are a lot of stronger students applying from our school - better grades, more rigor, and stronger extracurriculars. Would she be admitted over over students because her family knows someone in admissions?
No, UF doesn’t even use demonstrated interest in admissions. Certainly you can advocate for a student but that doesn’t mean they are actually going to make it through all of the committees we have when we are evaluating applicants.

Just FYI in case people are interested, UF board met today and, among other things, gave an admissions update. Applications are continuing to increase. They said early action applications were up 10K from last year (to about 61k, I think). They didn’t share data but said the quality of applications was the strongest yet. They shared a slide with applications through the second week of November that showed a rise in all applicants and honors applicants from last year. are they instate or OOS Applications
The presentation didn’t say, but both (it’s not like FSU that has a separate process for in-state). In recent years, the number of in-state applicants has stayed reasonably flat; OOS has increased by something like 50% in 4-5 years (from a slide I shared on last year’s UF thread. UF says they evaluate in-state and OOS the same, and past stats would bear that out. They increased the target percentage of OOS in the freshman class last year to be 25% if memory serves, which seemed to just reflect where things were going.

What is University of Florida’s custom in EA with respect to %s admitted/deferred/rejected?
Last year was the first year EA was offered. I can’t find published data on deferred or rejected from EA.

I don’t remember seeing overall numbers reported anywhere (in terms of EA accept vs reject vs defer) but I know UF did reject students EA last year—close friends with very strong in-state students. So it’s not like schools that either accept or defer everyone, or at least it wasn’t last year.

I will say that at least if you’re in-state and depending on your major, there are alternative pathways in that can be pretty quick if you have a lot of college credits. I don’t know the details but I have friends whose kids have done those.
A few days to go…son applied EA IS Mech Engineering Honors College….1560 SAT, 5.28/3.99 GPA 12 SATs up through BC Calc and Physics C (all 5s but a 4 in physics C)…Just finished DE Calc III and is in Diff Equations. many leadership but no sports. Interesting internship last summer, a lot of misc volunteer hours, and decent essays. Hoping for the good news Fri evening….good luck to everyone.
Does everyone’s portal indicate “Transcript Received - Under Review” under the Transcripts Received section? This has always been the case for us but thought it would eventually show one of the available statuses listed, such as In Progress.
My kid’s says received and has a green check mark in the box. It doesn’t say “under review”.
We have a green checkmark in the application checklist section for “self reported transcript and academic record”, but the transcripts received section says under review.
