No, it is a traditional semester school except that the fall term starts in early Aug and the spring term ends in April. They then have Summer A, B, and C. If you elect to go to school during the summer, you pay for the classes you take during that term and if you have FA it MAY be allowed for the summer terms; Pell grants yes, Bright Futures yes (now, used to be no), if you have any loan money left over, you can get it for a summer term.
By law, students have to take at least 9 credits during the summer terms. Lots of ways to get that in by studying abroad, by doing internships, etc. You can do it all in one summer or take 3+ credits per summer.
Does that mean summer is seen as paying for another semester on top of the traditional fall/spring semesters? For example, let’s say I pay 5k for fall & 5k for spring tuition every year, am I paying another 5k for the Summer session?
This is how it works. Let us say you attend Summer B and the student takes a total of 6 credits. The Student will pay the per credit/fee rate for those 6 credits. If the student lives on campus the Summer B session, the student would only pay the rate for that term which is usually much less than the traditional rate for the whole semester.
Due to the Virus, UF will be holding all their classes for Summer A and Summer C online this summer. They have yet, to determine what they are going to do for the upcoming Summer B admitted freshmen group. Based on some of the blogs I have read, many are waiting to commit due to the uncertainties of starting college this way and the higher cost attached to it.
Anyone here who’s son/daughter will be going for performing arts/visual arts? My daughter is making her decision and was accepted out of state. She doesn’t know much about these programs, how auditions work for performances, etc. (She was originally just seeing about getting into UF.) Or can she minor in studio art while doing theatre. She will also reach out to the counselor assigned to her. Just wondering if she could connect to any kids with the same interests.
@COmama24 my daughter is not planning on majoring in performing arts but will be involved with orchestra (violin) in the fall. We are in state and I would love for her to connect with other arts kids. Congratulations and Go Gators!
@brink3 It would be awesome if they could connect. She doesn’t know anyone going, other than someone she hasn’t seen since a baby. LOL She said she’d love to meet some people to talk to before she got there. Could you PM me if you’re daughter wanted to chat with her? My daughter has also been in her school band since middle school (not marching band) and plays the flute. She will be concentrating on theatre and visual arts though…Thanks!
@collegemomjam Hi there! I just read your post about being OOS. My daughter is pretty certain she will be there this Fall as an incoming freshman. I grew up in Florida and attended UF, but I know the city also is totally built up from the time I attended. She is excited at the thought of a big school, school spirit, sororities…I know when I was there there was a big number of NE kids (at least in the Greek system that I met). I have no doubt that OOS kids can mesh. Because Gainesville is a place that most kids are still traveling a distance from in Florida, even Florida kids are meeting other Floridians they didn’t know. What is your daughter wanting to study? Maybe we can get a forum going for OOS kids to chat before they arrive. (Or they can find each other on Insta or Snap LOL) I know my daughter said she’d really like to at least be in touch with kids that she could talk to or eat meals with once she arrives…
@collegemomjam I realized I said daughter, but then I don’t even know if you have a son or daughter. LOL I think I have just been in the zone of college stuff with my own daughter.
@COmama24 can you PM me with the contact information on your daughter and I will give to my daughter as I am unable to send one as a newer member of CC
