Also no personal experience, but some good friends of ours have a kid at KU. Their other kid is at Madison. Both are majoring in some type of Business. Both were very strong high school students. The older (the one at Madison) chose it over a variety of East coast schools (Northeastern and BU and some others) after deciding the vibe at Madison was a better fit. The younger decided to seek a similar experience, so applied only in the Midwest. Midwest flagships tend to be strong. Both kids are liberal, but not very politically active other than voting. Both are having terrific experiences and loving college. They are getting good summer internships (in the Midwest.) I have another friend whose S26 is also applying to KU. Also on his list are University of Oregon and University of Denver. This kid is also liberal, but again not overly political.
