We had our son take out the $5K student loan, primarily so he would have some skin in the game. After the various fees, including the per credit hour ones for engineering courses, he generally has about $1K per semester left over.
Our daughter is a Patterson, as well for next year. Back in 2018, notification was a real pain. UK financial aid, like many schools, was following same process as for NMF. Also, Scholarship America had recently taken over administering the program. However, this year was a walk in the park. Financial Aid office instructed me to send scanned pdf copies of NHRP letter and certificate. Award letter should be arriving soon.
My son applied at December 1. He is a NHRP scholar and I had sent scans of his NHRP letter and cert a few days later. He’s got his acceptance letter, but not any aid/award package yet. How much longer would one expect to here about the Patterson scholarship? Getting nervous seeing others say they’ve been awarded and hadn’t seen anything. We’re OOS so of course that award would greatly matter. Thoughts on how much longer to go before going full helicopter parent on the admission/aid office?
@futureukymom , it’s still early, but it wouldn’t hurt to call. They’re not going to get mad at you.
Since student financial matters are tightly bound to the parents, it’s not helicoptering for a parent to make sure things are in line…IMO
From UK’s scholarship site for the Patterson:
“ National Merit Finalist or National Hispanic Recognition Scholar; National Merit Finalists must list UK as college choice with National Merit Scholarship Corporation. National Hispanic Scholars contact the Academic Scholarship office for required documentation. “
This suggests the process is different between NMF and NHRP, so I suggest calling the Academic Scholarship office.
Hi did he get accepted to the University, We heard shortly after Dec 1 like the December 20th we emailed Cert in the before the Dec 1 and had Act transcript mail in from College board. Defiantly call or Email, we visited the school and they said FaFsa or air would be mailed out mid February.
