S19 received the Presidential award of $48,000 ($12,000/year). Notified via email.
D19 Presidential award of $32,000 ($8,000/yr).
My son received an e-mail - Presidential award of $50,000 ($12,500 per year). We were not expecting that!
Edited to add stats:
OOS (NoVA)
3.95 wGPA (3.7)/34 ACT; 6 APs,10 honors
College of Arts & Humanities (School of Music), admitted to CS Scholars
I believe they have a particular need for his instrument . . .
Can you award winners post stats?
Thx
My D just got a Presidential Scholarship for $50,000! ($12,500 per year)! OOS-SoFL
my son just got his scholarship info & really fell its got to be wrong. First he received a total of $20,000 for 4 yrs .
the way it is written Iām thinking its $5 a yr. First I should say we are OOS. When he applied was lead to believe bannerkeye wa a posabilty. He is a NMF, 95 unweighted average, 103 weighted. 12 APs 6 CL classes & rest honors. Also top 10% in the class, 1520 SATs. He was admitted into honors & into computer science dept. Looking at all the above Iām really feeling this is off. Thoughts please. All other OOS schools have offered $15- $20,000 & now adding more with NMF. Thes are all big schools of equal comparison (Rutgers, mass, Minnesota to name some) as well ass our state school (stony brook) offering free tuition. All offered honors as well. Do the reconsider? wWill be on the phone again on mon, which I hate because they always have such along hold time. Thoughts? I should add at $5,000 it is definitely not in the running.
@STEM2017 adding stats as requested
S19 OOS Presidential $48,000 ($12,000/year) - Mechanical Engineering

lots of ECs with leadership and service
@lovemycats, DS got an email with Presidentās scholarship $5k/year. He goy accepted into Computer Engineering earlier⦠OOS. SAT 1490/GPA 3.8UW/4.17W
@mountainofmom3 - congratulations!
did Banneker Key already come out? Sorry I got 20k presidential in state and Iām very pleased, just curious!
@Ezga3969 - yes, Banneker had already gone out maybe 2 weeks ago. Congratulations- that is a very nice award for in-state!
Congratulations to all for scholarships.
D received Presidentās Scholarship $50k equally distributed over four years. (CS major). Very thankful.
@Ezga3969 is that 20k per year or over 4 years?
Do you mind me asking your stats? I donāt get why my son was offered so little for OOS, either itās wrong or was very much mislead. He is also CS accepted & honors college. Stats above.
Son got Presidential 20k, which is 5k per year. In-state. Honors College, School of Engineering, Computer Engineering.
Stats: SAT 750 Verbal 780 Math, Unweighted GPA 3.9, weighted GPA 4.6, 4 college classes, at least 8 AP classes with 4 and 5 scores. Tons of activities, Eagle Scout.
UMD is top choice so far but he hears from 3 more schools in March, so no final decision yet.
Is he going? I donāt get how same stats some get 12 & some 5. Big difference. Was definitely considering it but now much lower on the list unless it changes.
I think in-state versus out of state makes a difference in the amount offered, at least with the popular majors.
@shellbab i got presidential 20k which is distributed over 4 years. from what iām seeing @MarcieC in terms of merit scholarships, the cap for presidential in-state seems to be 20k whereas iām seeing as high as 48k for oos. residency is definitely a factor.
It is not just Stats. Transcripts, LORs, Essays, and ECs ALL factor into the decisions.
In state:
I got presidential 20k over 4 years.
SAT: 790 Math and 750 Reading
GPA: 3.85/4.35
9 APs
A few awards and a few activities that I was very dedicated too.
I was a little disappointed at first but it makes a little more sense now since I was in state as well. Wasnāt expecting Banneker key because I didnāt have as much leadership. Good chance Iāll be attending! Just have to hear back from a few of my reach schools in March.
Did all the scholarships go out today? My OOS son loves UMD but we would need some scholarship. 34 ACT, only 3.8 GPS (has ADD but deals with it much better now), 9 APs. What are his chances of receiving any merit?
