University of Maryland (UMD) College Park Early Action 2024

If student got accepted into computer science and college park scholars (not honors), do you think he/she eligible for merit scholarship (OOS)?

Accepted. It was a reach for me. 1160 sat 3.52 gpa. A lot of extra curricula activities though and great writing abilities THATS probably what got me in.

Yooooooooooooo!!! Got in CS LEP! SAT 1430, GPA 4.3
Tons of Ec’s, Captain Football team, Happy kid! And dad!

Daughter direct admit to Smith School of Business. 4.64 weighted GPA, 30 ACT, in-state. NHS, 2 sport varsity athlete and other extracurriculars. Also received invitation to College Park Scholars. What is that and what is difference between that and Carillon? They both seem to be LLC’s.

Banneker Key interview invitations will be mailed usually in the first two weeks of February. But if you get the invitation the least you will get is about 1/2 full ride. Keep in mind this is extremely selective. I read the profiles of some previous winners. Their stats of course were near perfect but their EC include things like: self made business creation, intern for US Senator/ Pres. Cand., Building homes in 3rd world countries.

@ImStillDre They will be angry with you? There are so many qualified applicants who get rejected every year. Maryland is a hard school to get into. Presumably you applied to other schools as well. Hopefully you will get into one of those. It’s easier to get into MARYLAND as a transfer student if you want to still go. There is a place for everyone.

@yrmomkb MY D was admittedly two cycles ago to scholars and got a small President’s merit award. We were also OOS.

GOT IN!! Comp Sci LEP with Honors!! ugh feel like a weight has been lifted off my chest  good luck to all!!

Son accepted for Mechanical Engineering - no Honors or other programs

4.24 W - 3.8 U
All accelerated and 6 AP classes
780 Calc and 760 Chem SAT Subjects

How difficult is it to do an internal major transfer to CS? My S got into Letters and Sciences Carillon Comm.

what is ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAMS?

Really shocked I didn’t get in to be honest. I got into all of my other schools; U Delaware, Penn State, UMass Amherst, and many more. I was only waitlisted from Tulane which is extremely competitive. I don’t get how I was deferred from Tulane but not even deferred from Maryland or even offered a spot for spring semester? I genuinely don’t understand. I mean damn, you’d think this is Harvard!

@MDMOM24 No. It is not new. The kids can get into the Freshman Connection program to take classes as freshmen during first semester. They are limited to certain classes in that program and then can take the regular classes second semester. They live in the dorms like everyone else. The only difference is the classes they are limited to— they are later in the day and supposedly have fewer students in them. And I am guessing the breadth of classes is limited. Someone else may be better able to speak to this.

D20 in-state, accepted and got into honors
1490 SAT
rank 1/261

Accepted Honors, Engineering
ACT 36
SAT 1550
WGPA 4.81
13 AP
Have not cured Eboli or Corona viris so BK is in doubt.

HOW DO WE SEE IF WE GOT MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

I got in, but not into my intended comp sci LEP, just division of letter and sciences OOS. I got offered college park scholars at least. I’m kind of disappointed. I knew my GPA of 4.0 was a little on the low side, but I was hoping all my ap exams and 1550 SAT would’ve carried me into the major. Ah well, I’m happy regardless. I’m curious though, how does a transition from Letters and Sciences to a CS major usually go when declaring a major, and what things need to be done to do so?

when did you apply?

DS admitted
Feeling so great!
