University of Maryland (UMD) College Park Early Action 2024

Hey all-my S20 daughter applied EA and we are waiting, as well. I don’t want to create panic or alarm but having come from the Michigan EA with the X situation (hopefully someone here knows what I’m referring to)-there always seems to be some weird loophole to gain a little insight. I’ve been playing around on the Coalition App and I’m curious to know if anyone else is seeing this on their coalition app–which from my understanding is where we get the decisions? If I click on “deadline and information” for schools my daughter has been accepted to or is not scheduled to hear from until spring, the box is greyed out. For a school she has been denied, the box “Apply Again” is illuminated. For Maryland, that box is illuminated which is giving me the sense that she has been denied. (given that decisions have clearly been made already) I’m curious to know if anyone else is seeing this?

Ours also shows as illuminated. However, the same is true for another school on the coalition app and my son has already been accepted there. So, I don’t think it means anything

@sunkissedskidoo Sorry, where do I find this?

Thank you, @kftwirl!! I’m feeling way less anxious now!! Probably means nothing then.

@ccorley23 you find this on the Coalition App. Under Univ of Maryland, the drop box that reads “college deadline and information”. Thankfully, @kftwirl has dispelled my theory and calmed nerves at the same time!

Im seeing the same thing…then checked a few other schools and they are also illuminated, but some are not. We have not heard from ANY Coalition app schools yet, so I dont know what to make of this…

@CARRIEGO -thank you for checking, as well. Ok, so this theory is dead. She applied to very few coalition schools so I didn’t have much to check against. PHEW

Here is what my research has found about the decision day. If it truly is decision day, the checklist on the Coalition application will disappear in the afternoon and the only thing that will show up (I believe ) will be the admissions decision after 5:00PM.

Currently my son’s checklist still appears in the application.

I have also checked the other school for which he applied to in Coalition app, and that one also gives the option to “Apply Again.” He applied to that one RD that had a deadline of December 1 and won’t release decision until March 1.

Rest easy everyone, I don’t think anything will happen today.

Word of warning…when my D applied to UMD two cycles ago, it took nearly two hours to log into her coalition app account because the system was so overwhelmed. So, don’t panic if you don’t get on right away.

UMD releases its EA response on the last Friday of January - so it is 31st and not 24th, this year.

@sunkissedskidoo My D’s coalition app has the Apply again button active on all 3 of her applications - including Rutgers to which she already has been accepted. Net this does not mean anything. Nice try!

Does anyone know what time of the day generally they will announce results ? Is it 5 pm ?

My son was denied from University of Georgia and when I go into the Coalition App it is greyed out, but he was accepted to JMU and it’s illuminated. So it’s the opposite for me!

I got in the mail an invitation to the Terps Youngs Scholars at UMD. Does anyone know if this is a good or bad thing regarding my admissions to the school?

@sophie9999 it’s a totally separate thing - terp young scholars is like a summer program you can do and get college credit (i did it for the forensics course…highly recommend!!)

So do we think today or no?

UNC just released decisions which everyone thought would come out next Fri…so hoping UMD will too!

there’s definitely a chance for today! i was hanging out on the unc chapel hill ea forum and they said decisions were supposed to be next week yet the came out today with no warning. if they do come out today, it’ll be around 4:45!

Last year when my daughter was admitted (scholars), right around 5 pm she was sent an email to check her app. It was the last Friday of January and AFTER that bus went around surprising people. She had 1450 SAT and a 4.2 GPA with lots of AP, no volunteer, no job, no extracurriculars. She applied for the Arts and Humanities scholarship we were emailed about after we went to new student orientation and got that for $2,000. She lived in the scholars dorms which had A/C so she was happy about that. My son is now awaiting his decision for class of 2024. Good luck to all! It is very nerve wracking I am sure.

so we thinking theyre coming out today or what?
