University of Miami Class of 2023

So if you were deferred what are the chances of you getting in?

Just got my merit scholarship! Canes Achievement Award at 10,000 per year. sad. I needed more to be able to go to miami

Admitted letter says they had 38000 applicants for 2100 spots in the freshman class. Even if they accept 4-5x that many students to try to fill the seats, that’s super competitive this year.

I’d assume that they accepted around 12k students and out of those 12k students around 2k will be attending. For example, I got in to UM, but it is expensive, so if I get into UF than I will take UF over UM.

Deferred  3.9W GPA 1360 SAT for business

If I got a scholarship would it be in the letter?

@johnwb I think you are reading the letter incorrectly. They enroll 2,100 per year but typically accept around 11,000. The letter doesn’t state how many EA applicants were accepted.

If you get deferred do not feel as though it is over and done. Far from it. You still have a great shot. The best thing you can do to maximize your chances is to submit your mid-year grades, and write a letter to your AO stating your continued interest in Miami. Definitely state if it is your number 1 choice, and that you would attend if selected. I would also give a few reasons why you love to go to school at Miami. And mailing the letter to your admissions officer rather than email is also a nice touch.

@johnwb how do we know who our admissions officer is?

Admission Staff: https://admissions.miami.edu/undergraduate/about/meet-our-staff/index.html

It is usually whoever signed your Deferral. If not the school usually list who covers what region of the country

I don’t see an AO for my state?

I’ve gotten federal financial aid info but no merit aid info yet. anyone else in the same boat?

dont want to sound ignorant or anything but im kind of surprised i got denied not even deferred

could I just email the letter to the office of undergraduate admissions or is there a chance they wouldn’t see it?

Do they waitlist from EA too or just defer/deny?

*mail

my son was rejected
so i think where i saw cancelled earlier did actually mean rejected. Congrats to everyone that got in and good luck to those still waiting.

i got deferred kinda expected rejection so that’s cool lmao

Deferral for us
Now we wait for FSU. Congrats to all who got accepted!!! Our son is a freshman at the U and he absolutely LOVES it! I know a deferral isn’t a “no”, but trying to be realistic. Would’ve been great having “two at the U”, but I’m confident kids end up where they belong!
