University of Miami Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

It will let any applicant register. Nothing to that. Sorry

do you have to show documentation that you cant afford if you commit ED and then back out? do other schools get notified that you EDd somewhere and got in, reducing your chances elsewhere? We were planning to stick with RD rather than go ED2.

I’m not super knowledgable on finanical aid stuff, but I think to pull out you need to have a good faith negotiation with finanical aid office (which might include showing them documentation of some sort). I know that they don’t inform other schools that you EDd. I’d just make sure you really think about it for a while before switching because this decisions will most likely alter the next 4 years in a very important way.

Does anyone know if you do ED2 and select that is ok to be considered for Spring 2025 admission, is it still binding? vs only rolling with Fall 2024 option? Thank you

If you get spring, it is not binding anymore.

thank you, are you 100% sure?

Yes

Does anyone know if you apply ED ll and get accepted, do most applicants get offered spring admission or do most get fall?

If it makes you feel better to be sure about being released from ED if offered spring, it states it on their website.

Son admitted. He’s pumped up about it. We are too, but not so hyped on the cost of full tuition. We are unclear on merit award if that will come, if ever? We completed FAFSA earlier in the month. Any insight would help.

Ours came with our acceptance.

In my opinion… just my opinion, so take it fwiw… I think it’s deeply unethical to apply ED or ED2 with the thought that you might back out-- for any reason. I know people do it, in a Hunger Games kind of way. Our school sent out a letter basically begging people not to do this, as it reflects horribly on the school and could have major implications for future applicants.

Defer notice says we need to send semester grades via CA by 2/9, but our school indicates they will be uploading them the week of 2/12, so hopefully that will be ok. Let me know if anyone has suggestions? Should i let the AO know?

Anyone run into issue where Miami Net Price Calculator generated significant merit scholarship ($20k) but then no merit scholarship was granted? Got vague answer from school rep about ā€œrecord number of applicationsā€ ā€œcompetitive poolā€ ā€œlimits amount of money for competitive studentsā€. DS admitted to Herbert EA - do not qualify for financial aid - but shocked no merit given net price calculator generated sizable scholarship. Anyone run into this?

Supposed to be included with acceptance. Go in the financial aid portion of his portal and log in. He will need a code that will go to his phone to get in. Believe you go to the 3 bar image at the top and drop down ā€œGrantā€.

Did you run the net price calculator on the financial aid portion of the website before admission? We did and said my son would qualify for $20k but then none given at admission. See my comment below.

My son will be going too. We are local, so no hotel or airline tickets needed. I think it should be a fun day! You will meet with faculty and other scholars. UM wants you to fall in love with it

Yes, the net price calculator for our son estimated 20,000 a year for aid and he was offered 12,000 a year for aid. Not happening not worth it.

I should clarify, this is all Merit $$. We do not qualify for financial aid.
