University of Miami finacial aid?

We attended S/S weekend on 2/25-26 and on 3/7 our daughter received an email (in her myUM) which contained:

1. results of the S/S interview (did not receive either Singer or Stamps)
2. Gables scholarship (another 4k per year)
3. Foote Fellows invitation</p>

<p>Then, after 2 weeks of trying to figure out where I was going to get a 2nd job to pay the tuition remainder, fees, room and board I was checking the financial aid section of her myUM (via delegate access - make sure she has given you delegate access to at least the financials) and I discovered an update on Wednesday, 3/23/11. The update was the appearance of the Mimai Grant. And I did the dance of joy! There may have been some alcohol involved…</p>

<p>UM is incredibly flexible in terms of class scheduling from what I’ve observed. My D is in the honors program and Foote Fellows, so she may have been given more leeway. But, she basically got into everything she wanted. UM does a first cut of their schedule online, but the system didn’t take into account her status with honors, Foote or her AP credits (she had 41) - so most of the courses she signed up for over the summer in the online app were replaced with what she really wanted when she met with her advisor during orientation week.</p>

<p>Minnesota’s COA is 13k for year 1, but what about years 2-4? Does that price go up anywhere near what UM would likely be for you? Based on what you’ve mentioned in earlier notes, your D is will minimally receive 24k + 4k, leaving ~13k for tuition/fees and another ~12k for room/board. Throw in 3k for travel and you’re looking at ~28k worst case per year at UM. Plus I’ll bet she’s going to be getting some outside scholarships from somewhere?</p>

<p>Do you have a “smart” phone that you could use for internet access on the ship? I haven’t done a cruise myself for 20 years, so I don’t know what kind of access is available now or what it costs. Can you leave someone at home your sign-in information for your myUM accounts - they could check for you and get word to you somehow?</p>

<p>Finally, hmmmm, give up booze for the last week of March. I’m not a religious guy but it seems that’s right in the middle of lent this year - so yeah that would probably be do-able. Altho, I think you and your family will come to the right decision (psssst, she’s going to love being a Cane!).</p>
