Well, they do have more than one person doing this job.
The Why Michigan essay is extremely important to admissions. I know a prior AO who says it’s probably more important than the commom app essay.
As an engineer you’d expect that the “resources needed” variable would have been adequately considered…
Hi! My daughter got deferred to RD. Her ACT is 31, GPA 3.96 weighted / 4.4 UW, lots of APs, captain of varsity team, lot of other activities and leadership.
Question: is it possible to request at this point that they don’t consider her ACT? I think it may be hurting her more than helping her.
For those ready to commit or just wondering what your next steps are…
I totally understand your standpoint. Keep going and I hope your S25 will consider writing the LOCI to increase his chances. I learned not to take these setbacks personally.
For my D25, she is only reaching out to her regional rep for one of your mentioned schools. She applied to both, just like you and got deferred. That’s because she has known him from 10th grade, bouncing emails back and forth and the rep knew how interested my D25 is. For the other college, we decided to wait and see as she has never met the rep even though she emailed admissions a few times to ask questions throughout 11th and 12th.
I see students can ask to not consider if they were postponed and it is requested by Feb 1. I have seen a lot of students were admitted TO during EA, so it might be a good way to go. Will be having that discussion with my daughter.
UM Results survey:
(This is a repost from here) If anyone hasn’t filled out this results form, please do so if you have the time! It’ll be helpful for future students/parents going through this process.
You can check out results statistics and individual responses through the links above. Thanks!
I want to thank this students contribution to the thread this year. You have been very helpful and it will be interesting to see what we learn from the survey.
But it’s also a very small sample from a microcosm of the real world.
Good luck on your future.
Are the RD decisions released in waves or all at once? And if they are in waves, when are they usually?
Typically all at once end of March /first week of April
We are thinking the same. I don’t know where I read this but I think Ross is about 50% out of state. My daughter was deferred OOS. If their class size is 500 and yield is high but let’s just say they admit 800 total from EA and RD, that’s 400 kids who are admitted OOS for the entire country and international. Layer in institutional priorities and it’s rough. We are moving on mentally. Plus the cost which is a real factor.
Yeah, the numbers are scary. My point was they may have already accepted 800 in the EA round itself, leaving hardly anything for RD (including deferred.)
Ross admissions explicitly encourages applicants to apply EA for best chance.
Getting waitlisted is perhaps the only viable outcome from RD pool of Ross.
Admitted vs accepted is really the big thing. They have to figure that out and during RD try to hit their numbers.
Sorry, meant to write “accepted”, will correct it.
Wait, on second thoughts, what really is the difference between Admitted/Accepted?
I thought colleges Admit/Accept a certain number keeping their expected yield in mind to enroll their planned class size.
I’m a noob when it comes to college admissions terms, so excuse my ignorance.
Yes! That messaging was very clear. Perhaps RD/WL admits will really only come in the way of small adjustments to the class after ivy day etc.
Admitted = accepted, vs enrolled?
