Thank you! @altmusicman I’m wondering if putting down the deposit early would be able to select housing early. I’m pretty sure UMich is my final choice but there are still results I’m waiting for.

What you describe is a play at some schools who prioritize the date of housing registration for housing preferences. Based on the below language from the Michigan housing website, however, I don’t believe you receive such preferential consideration for early housing registration. You just need to have that done by May 6th. So, no need to pay the enrollment deposit before you are certain and risk forfeiting it.
From their website:
EARLY APRIL THROUGH AUGUST
After U-M receives your enrollment deposit, we will send you an email with a link to the University Housing application. If you’ve submitted your enrollment deposit and waited three weeks but have not received an email (and it’s after April 4rd), email us at housing@umich.edu. Make sure you include your U-M ID number.
MAY 6
Applications recieved by May 6th are randomized for assignment. After May 6th, applications will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Application preferences are not guaranteed.
Thanks Alt…
Good to know as things will happen fast come April-May.
The info seems a little murky. Submitted a deposit and waited three weeks.
So if one Submits the deposit on May 1st at the deadline. Could that push them into the less desirable first come first served Cue as opposed to being randomized for assignment?
Almost sounds like earlier enrollment does favor a May 6th cut off given the waiting three week period thingy.

There isn’t any priority given based on the date that the deposit was submitted.
Right it’s based on the date of the housing application. Question is could waiting until say May 1st risk that mentioned wait three week period ( which I don’t understand ) push the application out past May 6th. Something seems out of sync…
@J123D123 I agree, a bit of a glitch if an enrollment deposit on the deadline of May 1st doesn’t trigger a housing registration email for 3 weeks…which would put one’s housing registration in the undesirable post-May 6th period. Don’t know if it would really play out that way, but to be super safe, one might want to make enrollment deposit by mid-April. At least students should have all acceptances (other than waitlists) to make a final decision by then.
@altmusicman Yeah, that makes sense. Thank you everyone!
I really want to attend U of M, but I was unsure about what to do after being deferred. Does anyone think it’s still worth it to send in a LOCI? The deferral letter said not to send anything else in besides the mid-year transcript, so I held off. I applied to CoE, 4.01 GPA, 1420 SAT. Also, I live in state but my residency was classified as OOS, the admissions office said it wouldn’t affect my decision though. Any thoughts/ advice?
@seeyam12 LOCI is necessary if you like the school. They need to know and the only way is if you reach out.
Btw Ik 2 people in my school that got accepted during the March wave and didn’t send loci. I think it depends on the school you’re from?
Okay, thank you very much. Should the LOCI be an actual formal letter in an envelope sent to the admissions office or will a simple email to my area’s admission counselor be sufficient enough?

@seeyam12 I would type it up in google docs or something and add it as an attachment in a email to the admissions office. Then, it’s easy for them to put it in your file and quicker than if you sent an actual letter.
Thank you!
so can we expect a possible small wave on 3/15 or do we have to wait until 3/29
@seeyam12 I just typed it up as an email. I won’t worry too much about the format, but explain why you think UMich is the school for you, and that doesn’t have to be academic related.

So I’m guilty of over analyzing the entry signs of various waves trying to understand their actions thinking as many others it’s all about the entry.
Then I stopped and thought. It’s more about the exit signs. How does a University with so many applicants and so many undergraduates Taylor it’s campus and programs to get the result of the 92% who graduate.
So I suppose the key is not just getting in with stats overall. It’s all about a “good fit” holistically to contribute to an overall graduation rate of…

Just Saying
I sent my LOCI via an email to my local representative, 5 days later I received a response with him thanking me and telling me that it’ll be put under my file. I hesitated to send a LOCI because of what the email stated, but I know people who were deferred, sent a LOCI, and were then accepted. From what I’ve seen, I’d recommend sending a LOCI. I hope this helped someone out!
For those who have received a decision…were you notified by email that a decision was available or do you have to check the portal to know if there is a decision. Thank you!
