Yeah, I guess it’s more about expectation setting. I’m not qualified to speak on admissions in general, let alone waitlists.
My point was more around getting off the admissions game asap before May 1st. It’s a special and emotional time for most families and the sooner they mentally commit to their best choice among available schools the better.
Nothing wrong in choosing to stay on the waitlist though, but it better be forgotten as soon it’s done. Of course everyone handle things differently.
I agree with the overall point: be realistic and pick another school, even if you stay in the lottery.
(Btw, I think for many of the people on CC, the whole process has been a lottery.)
As for what others ‘should do’… it’s their choice.
Does Michigan accept locis?
It’s stated a few posts sbove, and on the portal.
The short answer is no.
Ok, thank you! No emailing them either correct?
Every year there will be lots of people that were accepted not going to Michigan for various reasons. No idea on those numbers but many to take those spots IE : the wait list.
Follow the letter you have on what to do, which is basically just wait it out. If you want to do something else then that’s on you.
My son accepted a spot on the waitlist for Sports Management and got an email yesterday with information about applying for the Sports Management Immersion Program (SMI) that starts runs in the Winter session and the for the short Spring Session. Do any of the experienced parents on here know anything about the program and acceptance rate for it?
I, too, am looking for information about this!
I do not have any experience with the program via my kid who graduated LSA.
But in terms of past CC parents, over the last few years that the program has been offered, CC parents have found the SMI program to be phenomenal. And it’s a great way to get into a great program in a great school.
Also, these past CC posters have said that everyone in the program, who wanted to live in a dorm, got a dorm. And most, if not all, got their dorm on Central Campus. But of course, there are no guarantees.
The program has had a starting cohort of about 50 freshman in prior years. Of course, no idea what 2025 holds.
Do you think some people may not have Michigan as their top option because of their rejection of DEI and support of the president or is that a reach?
As stated Michigan has done this for several year’s. School’s are being more creative to admit more student’s. Nice thing is you get to meet people doing the same exact thing and it’s something to bond over. Overall it’s a fantastic program. Sometimes we need to think out of the box to get what we want. Good luck.
My son was admitted to Ross OOS after being deferred. The University of Michigan has always been his dream school. However, his second choice is currently IU’s Kelley School of Business. He was directly admitted there and was accepted into their ACE Program which is a selective honors program for about 50 students out of the 2000 incoming freshman at Kelley. Kelley is in state and would only cost $15k per year after scholarships. Ross is OOS and would cost at least $60k per year. Right now he is leaning more toward finance or accounting within business. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether Ross is worth the extra $45k per year?
Congrats on both acceptances! Something tells me your son is very impressive and will continue to be at any school. My daughter chose a smaller program over Kelley but didn’t get into ACE. I don’t know too much about that but it looks great. I for one really like these smaller opportunities within these programs and feel like the networking and opportunities will set them up for a lot of success. It’s essentially a guarantee from day one that he’ll have a cohort and access to more opportunities. My daughter chose Wisconsin School of Business over Kelley bc she got into the Business Emerging Leaders program (25 kids, 4 year cohort with mentors etc, and scholarship + summer program). She is on the WL for Ross. I don’t think she would pass up this opportunity and pay $40k more a year for Ross. It would be a financial stress for us and we like this other program’s offerings. That said, Ross is incredible. FWIW, I went to a non target state school and went into investment banking bc I thrived where I was on a full ride. No regrets! Good luck!! And many many congrats!!!
Very nice response, I particularly agree with the “smaller opportunities” comments; but the best part, imo, is the FWIW part!
Isn’t she amazing? I don’t want to embarrass her, but I truly enjoy reading her posts. One of my most favorite parents on CC.. you too make the list, btw! lol..
Thank you for the insight!
Thanks Man, I love you, too! Lol
And yes, great mom → great daughter.
I’ve said it too many times, on a number of threads here. It’s great to go to a famous school, but the school cannot do for you what you couldn’t do on your own at a less famous school. I hope the motivated kids, who didn’t get into their dream school, come to understand this, like the poster above has.
Oh my goodness this made my day and I might tear up!! This group of parents has kept me sane and reminded me there is so much humanity and good in this crazy process. I need to go back to working in higher ed because I love this age group and all that they are doing. It’s amazing. Thank you and I feel the same way. You are all so wise and thoughtful. And your kids sound amazing.
I should also add to my comment above that this type of smaller program is such a perfect fit for my daughter. A bit more support during the college transition is going to be really meaningful for her in particular. For some kids that’s not a priority and there is nothing wrong with that either!
