University of Michigan Deferral Thread EA 2019

Is one letter enough or is 2 too much? When does it become annoying to them?

@calspeed
In my lowly opinion, if you received a confirmation to your first letter of interest, do not send another. Admissions is coping with so much coming in at them that it might be annoying. However, if you are one of those people who never received a confirmation email follow up to your continued interest letter, then by all means- use it as an opportunity. Just admit that you’ve already sent a letter of interest but you didn’t hear back, and you want to be certain they received it because UMich is great, you are def still interested, etc…

Thanks, did hear back. We will continue to wait but not sure it’s looking good?

Does anyone know what the actual acceptance rate is for deferred early applicants?

A continued interest letter doesn’t mean you’ll get in, I sent one in the week after Christmas and still have yet to hear back.

Is it too late to send a continued interest letter if I haven’t already? Also, should it just go to my regional rep if I did decide to send one?

@Icmcb1 no it is not too late. You should contact your regional representative.

Has anyone heard if another wave is supposed to come out tomorrow? and if so, around what time?

According to the tumblr page, there is no big wave tomorrow. Maybe a few lucky individuals. When they come out in waves they usually are released around in the early to mid afternoon.

no, results come out at midnight for all releases. the email gets sent in the afternoon.

Sorry, I’m just directly quoting Michigan’s social media pages. They said that decisions are not updated at night, only during work hours, and it takes them a while to get them all sent out.

Anyone have any idea when the next wave will come out?

“Individual decisions go out all the time, however there are no large batches scheduled for this week.” From the Michigan Tumblr 3 hours ago. The good news just keeps coming!

Too bad the decisions don’t keep coming. Maybe they should spend less time updating tumblr and more time on applications!

It really should be every Friday.

They’re probably just coming every 3rd Friday. Don’t stress over it, the wait will be over for all of us in about a month.

I know of people who were accepted and have not committed yet, I’m sure they have a formula in place and expect a certain number of accepted students to accept admissions by certain dates and this effects how, when and who else gets excepted.

also when shaping the class of 2019, I don’t think the dump at the end of accepted students can be that large, last year I think they over enrolled by 300 or something, it is in their best interest to have most of the 2019 class set except for a small percentage, otherwise they could end up excepting far too many students at the end who decide to attend after being admitted.

I think there are two reasons. First, there are more applications than they can handle within their schedule. They should have already admitted many students already while the majority of applications would be rejected or waitlisted that they do not notify early. Second, the would admit less than 15,000 before the April 15 deadline this year to avoid over enrolling again this year. So less students would get the admission notice by mid-March than last year. They said they will make use of the waitlist this year. I will not be surprised if there are a couple hundreds or more accepted from the wait list this year.
Note that the ~300 over enrollment last year was due to the 2% higher yield rate. Basically, they need to admit 5% less students this year if the yield rate remains the same.

MIT released admissions decisions yesterday. Ivy League has an agreement amongst the 8 schools to release on the same date in late March/early April. Until this happens…and UofM understands the impact of the Ivy League decisions…I don’t think much happens with Uof M.
