University of Michigan Deferral Thread EA 2019

Just be patient, we’re all in the final stretch.

Considering the acceptance rate was 33% last year, There’s no doubt that the majority will be rejected this late

Wouldn’t the majority be rejected at all times though?

Unfortunately, the waitlist rate is around there as well.

@implied‌ There have not been many rejections yet. I have not heard of any from our school and only a few have been posted here. Last year there were a lot at once in late March.

But there have not been many rejections yet, meaning the acceptance rate has been pretty high so far and the final wave is what will bring it down.
I’m just really nervous because I want to get in so badly!

Telling post on Michigan Tumblr…“You can always apply AGAIN as a transfer student…” Step #1 of softening the rejection or waitlist notifications…

Someone needs to train them in social media strategy and etiquette.

Honestly at this point I’ve just about given up on this school, which is really sad because it was my top choice for a very long time. But they deferred us in like December, it’s March now, and they won’t give us a decision or even a date so it feels like there’s just no end in sight to the waiting game. And yeah eventually we’ll all know but it’s just very disheartening to hear about all these kids who got in at unexpected times, complaining about their lack of financial aid and meanwhile have to keep asking why I don’t even know if I’m in or not, and then to hear about all these music major kids being accepted with full rides and such while the rest of us are anxious out of our minds about hearing back. It just seems so inefficient and has sadly altered my opinion of this school. Sorry about the rant it’s just been on my mind for so long, and the patience is running thin.

@cike2019‌ UCLA put the same thing in their rejection letter. It stung.

Everyone assumes that if they didn’t hear yet, its probably a rejection. I, however, don’t believe this is the case because of the 10 people who applied from my school in NY, every single student was deferred early action and the only one who has heard back was rejected, about 3 weeks ago actually. Many of the students who applied are HIGHLY qualified and have Ivy’s as their tops, and they still have not heard anything from umich. So please don’t be negative and assume that at this point its a rejection because annually, michigan accepts about half of the students that apply from my school, and none have been accepted thus far. I highly doubt that they will reject all 10 people who applied. So stay positive and don’t make assumptions!!

HI all…what are everyone’s 2nd choice schools? I applied to COE/deferred. Accpeted to U Wisonsim. UIUC, Rochester, Maryland, Boston.

I applied COE and was deferred. Accepted to Purdue’s CoE and MSU. I wasn’t expecting a huge hastle with Michigan, my credentials are right in their accepted averages. Wish I had applied to UC Burkeley and UCLA as back-ups, but Purdue wouldn’t be a bad second choice.

@jazzy312 What do you mean by “back-ups”? UCB and UCLA engineering are just as competitive if not more so. They admission stat are about the same while the admission rates were even lower than UMich.

“one man’s back up school is another man’s dream school”

–some youtube video i found a while ago

Sorry, I meant it as “options.” Michigan is by far my top choice. I would consider any other school as a “back-up,” disregarding acceptance. Would be nice to live in Cali though.

@jazzy312 In state admission rate for UCB and UCLA are even lower than OOS students.

I don’t see your point.

Oh yes, forgot I was also accepted to Purdue Jazzy…what do you think of it…I didn’t visit

I’m planning on visiting over my spring break unless I get the good news from Michigan. From what I know it’s still a very good school. They are even ranked higher than U of M in after-college career aid and opportunities, which is important for Engineering.
