University of Michigan Deferred Applicants Class of 2022

from reliable source hear that this Thursday night decisions will be released

@sss111222 Here we go again. The Thursday night release rumor is a weekly occurrence that has not proven to be correct for the last few weeks.

I think the reason so many are frustrated with Michigan’s application of a “rolling admission” process is that the obvious rejections haven’t been released. If they need to hold onto some “maybes” until they see all the applications- that’s totally reasonable. But you just know that there are many, many applications that they will never even glance at again, yet they are holding onto those until the end. That’s the part that is not fair to the applicant who expected a rolling admissions decision.

@MomofJ5 But michigan is NOT a rolling admissions decision school. So I am not sure what you mean by “not fair”. They release in mid December for EA and then late March for RD - they just happen to roll out some decisions early in February, but technically they are not a rolling decision school like, Indiana, for example. And they are not different than many colleges. I am sure that at many schools there are 1,000s of kids that never have a chance and would be denied, but they don’t pre-release those. Decision days are decision days for a reason.

@LvMyKids2 most of the decisions are released before the acceptances. The deferred acceptances are rolling while many of the rejections are late March/early April with some acceptances still left

Don’t know what I meant by that first sentence but it is basically rolling with mid April as the final date. More acceptances towards feb/March than April

To everyone being rude to @billcsho , he is helping us out, something he doesn’t have to do. Again, we should be saying thank you. I understand you guys are anxious, as am I, but what you do under stress is a show of character.

@EthanAz1 i am well aware that you may think it is basically rolling…but that is just because of the history. Again, the acceptance dates published by Michigan are mid/late December for EA and then mid April for RD.

UMich is not a true rolling RD application school as it does not have a fixed turn around time. It is rolling in the release of admission result. The true rolling admission schools are typically much less compwtitive. UMich only guarantee a final decision in April but vast majority would be released by late March. Rejection always have lower priority and they release earlier notice for admitted students to make them less stressful. Nevertheless, not all admission decision can be made early. Their system is far better than holding all admission result till April like many other schools. All you can do is to wait for their decision, and that will likely happen earlier for most applicants than many other schools with the same deadline.

I do not know why or how he got accepted, but I cannot see any pattern in U of M admissions. I guess they saw something, so great for him. Hopefully we all hear back what is best for us.

@raindoeninafrica In a holistic review process, it is often hard to know why someone gets in while some don’t (or take longer). Over and over, people often overlook the importance of essays in expressing real interest at the school. Have you read his/her essays? Likewise, you would not know about other’s LoRs. You also did not mention which school the other student applied, if he/she has multiple legacy, first generation college student, or his/her SAT score. In any case, you cannot judge other’s admission as you don’t have the whole picture in front of you.

Maybe the kid was nice af at track and mich knew he would be a good fit for all their programs, not just academic ya feel

ALso the server was down today. Maybe something???

How did you all find out what your UM-ID is? I applied to Penny W. Stamps and I cant find it in any email Michigan has sent me, and I’ve never gotten physical mail from them. Is the only way to find out to call their office?

@billcsho He also applied to LSA IS. And for the “commitment to the school” he did not even check his portal for 10 days because he “knew” he was going to get denied. He has no legacy, and for hypothetical reasons let’s say that he had a good essay. Still I do not understand how a good essay makes up for the lack of leadership abilities and 4 points on the ACT, and a lower GPA.

@raindowninafrica - do you know if he is first generation to go to college? Or what his home life is like? Whether he doesn’t have time for “leadership” because has to work after track practice to help support his family (which is why his GPA is lower than yours - and perhaps the reason why he couldn’t afford a tutor for ACT training)?

We go to a private college preparatory school. We are a feeder into U of M. He does not have a job nor has he ever. I don’t know if he had tutoring classes but neither did I. And he is not a first generation college student, but I am. I’m happy for him, because that’s awesome. I am just confused on why Michigan takes some over others.

@billcsho, do you know what percentage of admissions would already been given out? Instate and OOS. I guess that would give me an idea of where I stand. My stats are GPA 3.72, SAT 1560 6 AP courses. decent extra-curricular, Instate

I see all these scores of 1500+, and I am honestly amazed. I could never do that, but I cannot stop thinking of how crazy smart that is. Good work!!

I’m starting to lose hope especially after hearing about how hard it is to get in OOS… I have a 4.3W gpa and 3.9UW gpa with a 32 and work experience, competitive sports all 4 years (varsity also) and team captain experience… gotten denied from basically everywhere so far lol
