University of Michigan Deferred Applicants Class of 2022

@Dtriley oic thank you!

My counselor said that it should be this week either tomorrow or Friday. I’m in state and go to one of the feeder Schools

Any chance they will add more Campus Day dates?

@michigansister Don’t do it. I’m alum & my son is at an Ivy & met w/ admissions to advocate for his sister…it may have gotten her carefully considered but it made zero difference for admission. Plus when you advocate for someone & the school blows you off (which will ultimately happen), you feel resentful (like my son) LOL.

Plus, Michigan makes its decisions without consideration of a student who is ostensibly just getting into the swing as a sophomore…but they wouldn’t want to hear from a senior either so don’t feel bad. In fact, they don’t even want to hear from alumni (which I understand also). Credentials have to speak for themselves - bad or good.

Good luck to you all. Glad u got the right advice from others. I agree with @victor1990 and @knowstuff best to let this be.

I haven’t been on this thread for a few weeks, as we were waiting for other schools. (Wow, 2885 posts!) Sorry if this has been addressed, I’ve only scrolled back a few pages. I know people are saying there are more acceptances to come (we are OOS engineering) but is this really just a few special circumstances? Did I miss several “waves”? Are the vast majority of acceptances out? We looked at visit days and there are only a very few left, so I’m guessing if you haven’t been accepted, it is not good news (again minus a handful of applications that took extra time for one reason or another). Just trying to plan - not sure we can hop on a plane with less than a week’s notice to visit. Any insight as to what percentage of acceptances are out, especially for Engineering? We’d like to be realistic and we need to put down deposits at other schools right away to secure housing. Thoughts @billcsho?

@NWhummingbird It is hard to tell this year. It should have most of the admission release by this time of the year in the past. It may still have most of the admission released but likely at a slower pace though. One can only tell when they have the next batch released with a mix of admission and rejection.

My daughter is OOS engineering too and has many many friends who applied. Only one was accepted EA and no one else has heard anything since.

OOS engineering here too - nothing yet. Have a friend at school that is also engineering that is also still waiting. Given the very low acceptance rate for OOS engineering, braced for a rejection at this point. It would be a thrill to get admitted, but thinking it’s not likely, even though application stats are in line with what they say they would consider. It’s so competitive, especially being OOS, that the odds are definitely not in our favor, unfortunately. Best of luck to all who are still awaiting a decision!

They are dragging this out for a lot of people that just want to know if they got rejected. Five UC campuses – Berkeley, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Barbara – received more than 100,000 applications each and got it done as has almost every state school in the country. If they are discussing a last few decisions why not go ahead and release the rejections they know for sure? The multiple release dates are MORE stressful because it is a repeated build up to a moment with each buildup bringing more stress.

Thanks @billcsho. I looked again at the Campus Days schedule and am guessing that most acceptances are out. They have been having Campus Days for Engineering since January, and after Monday, there are only 4 left. The very last day to tour is 4/16. If they truly go by “mid-April” for the last acceptances and let us know on the 15th, there is no way for us to get there the next day. (Seems to me if they are going to use mid-April as last notification, there should be some late April Campus days). Even if we hear very early next week, we’ll have less than two weeks to book an expensive last minute plane ticket and request the day off from work. I realize this is no skin off UM’s nose so to speak - they clearly don’t care if it’s difficult for OOS people or if they lose IS or OOS students because they heard too late they’ve got tons to choose from. (But it’s got to be hard even for in state working parents to have to suddenly ask for the day off work?) Just unfortunate. If by some miracle my son gets in on the late end, he probably won’t be able to attend as we won’t be able to visit for a Campus Day. It’s a huge financial commitment for us and we’d need to see it. Plus, we will have to eat the cost of deposits put down on his next choice school. I really thought we’d hear by the first of April. Oh well…we’ll give it a couple more days then we’ll have to move on. Bummer because my kid is an aerospace nut and all his mentors really encouraged him to apply. He interned with NASA and Boeing and his bosses there really recommended it and thought it would be a great fit for him. Congrats to all those who got in! (And maybe if you have any pull there, mention to them for next year to either notify sooner or have later visit days?) Thanks!

@NWhummingbird raises a very good point about visit days. I hadn’t considered that at this late stage, they have made it prohibitive for late admitees to see the school. My D has been to UM before and as it is her #1 choice would go anyway - but it does make me wonder whether most of the remaining decisions are rejections at this point.

It doesn’t make sense to me. If there isn’t going to be one last big wave of acceptances, why wait until the end of March to release rejections? Last year there were 3 big waves. We have only had 2.

There should be another batch of admission release coming out soon and may be mixed with rejection. The question is how many admission slots are still left. The admitted students visit schedule is tricky for all those schools with April admission release. I don’t think there would be much admission left after early April anyway. Most of the admitted students, particularly from OOS, would not come to the Campus Day based on the slots available. Some may have visited the campus already. Some would make decision based on information obtained elsewhere.

so is tonight a likely release then?

We can only hope

What other large schools have not released most of their admissions and rejections?

@JohnGaltIII There are schools that have not released any RD result at all. Duke should be later today, CMU should come out in a few days. On the other hand, UMich has announced most (>50%) of the RD admissions as of 4 weeks ago.

Duke is releasing today at 7:00

Is it the general assumption here that the vast majority of LSA acceptances have already been given? (In state and OOS)
