University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

@viphan The estimated FA award notice would be sent after they have received and processed your CSS profile and FAFSA. At the same time you receive the estimated FA notice, it may request documents to verify the data for some students. After they received your document (if needed), they will update the FA package (if needed). They will continue to revise the FA package through the summer as the new tuition rate and R&B cost will be updated as well as other source of merit aid may come in.
Last year, we received the estimated FA award notice around mid March. I submitted the document in early April and got a revised official FA award in mid May. Then the award offer was revised several times in the summer.

My financial aid award package was posted yesterday with the comment CSS Profile waived. I only submitted FAFSA as the EFC came back higher than the COA and my parents figured it was pointless to complete it. I did get a loan and the regents scholarship (which I knew about already). Is there any point in trying to convince my parents to submit the profile since the website says waived? I’m worried I might be missing something.

Why would the FA office require additional documents for some students and offer final (for the purpose of this question) for others? Also, how much was the discrepancy between the NPC and the actual tuition for your D? And how much did the actual scholarship(merit+need) change from the first time it was notified and the final revision?

Not sure the criteria who would be chosen for verification. We did DRT in FAFSA but they still ask for W2 and tax form. It could be just random or if there is a difference between profile and FAFSA. The NPC is pretty close to the first estimated award notice but my D got a major scholarship from UM that is higher than the NPC estimated scholarship/grant amount. Then in the first official notice in May, they replaced all loan and workstudy with grant. So the change can be quite significant. You know in May, they already know the enrollment and can redistribute the aid from declined students.

Another question if anybody knows what to do - FA office specifically asks for tax-filer’s signatures. We used a CPA this year and apparently tax-filer’s signatures are not necessary if the signature of a CPA is present. Any advice?

if i already received my financial aid package yesterday and it was only a $5500 federal loan/yr, is there any way that i could set up a meeting or talk to someone in the financial aid to get more? my estimated contribution was around $80K/yr but that’s insane and not very accurate… i love UMICH but need $ to pay for it

Hobo you are alittle combative  sorry if I struck a nerve because clearly I did. It’s a common theme this time of year even though it’s been this way for a very long time.

@collegegal2019 Do you know the reason why your EFC is $80k? What make you think it is not accurate? Does your parents make less than $200k-$300k? The actual CoA for OOS student is actually $55k-$60k even if your EFC is $80k.

Is WA not working for anyone else?

My D is still waiting. Anyone here from LSA? She plans to be a Biology Major but didn’t declare it. This is really tough for all u waiting! Very unfair!

Wubbies - I agree the waiting is torturous!

Unlike other posters, I am hoping my D gets rejected. The cost is out of site for OOS and she has at least 2 other acceptances that I think are a better fits for her. But for some reason she like Michigan…go figure.

If you are continuously talking about receiving financial aid from the UofM, please visit another discussion thread. This thread is concerning those of us who are still yet to hear back or to announce our credentials if we got accepted, rejected, or deferred. So take your beef somewhere else and stop spamming our threads

Couldn’t agree more. So now that this thread is devoid of FA disagreements, any predictions on the next possible wave?

Pi Day for LSA and Engineering?

Hahaha! Possible on 13th March tho…

I also agree with Mumbai. If you guys don’t mind, where else have you been accepted?
