<p>I can’t “chance you” but I can tell you that all state universities in North Carolina must limit, by law, the number of out of state students. (My S is OOS and applying to a NC school, too.) They seem somewhat flexible on the percentage – I’ve heard 12%, I’ve heard 15% – so it may be a range rather than a fixed number. I don’t think they consider “New Jersey” as adding to “diversity.” You may want to ask the admissions office at UNCW how they handle the OOS percentage. We talked to the admissions people at UNCA and were told not to worry about it. They don’t separate the applications into 2 piles: IS and OOS. Perhaps they don’t get more than 15% OOS apps to begin with.</p>
