Most sushi bars are owned and run by Chinese in many countries (most of Europe anyway).
In the US, whomever can afford it opens whatever food places they can and run it, regardless of ethnicity. In HI, we have many ethnic restaurants run by other ethnicities, employing a rainbow of workers. I’ve always been most interested in the food for the price rather than anything else.
S has noticed similar trending wherever he travels on restaurants. Generally, it’s the most recent immigrants working food service and running restaurants because it’s a job they can get and hold without great language proficiency.
… and now I’m worrying about wearing the bolo tie and cowboy boots I bought when I was at a conference in Texas once. Not my culture but I thought it looked cool.
I have preppy clothing but I’m not a WASP!
Mr. is having serious second thoughts about wearing his aloha shirt to dinner at Roy’s (fusion cuisine) tonight. I think I will wear my favorite muumuu.
An Aloha Shirt is perfect attire for Roy’s and I suspect he will see many similarly attired. This is especially since you will be in your muumuu!
But we are afraid to culturally appropriate those, HIMom!
Dangerous times! =))
I presume African-Americans(thinking of the recent dreadlocks case) will not wear Levi jeans/products, or any blue jeans, right?
They were invented by Levi Strauss a German, Jewish immigrant to this country, who was also a capitalist. He saw a need for a product, and then created the product in hopes of making a profit.
If any American other than those of German, or at least European ancestry were to wear them, that would be appropriation, right? Or, any American not Jewish?
Yes, I’m sarcastic.
He invented them for working men, too. Not women.
i held it was because the students were too unfit to take the class.
what a great addition, PizzaG, I missed that one!
