Unusual names

Had classmate in school whose first name was his last name spelled backwards! Name ‘Darnell’ in post #259 above reminded me of him… his name was similar to something like Llenrad Darnell.

I’ve been trying to keep this one in… but I have to say that a recent student I encountered had a name that in English was homophonous with “failing”.

And what about Chris Christie, John Johnson, William Carlos Williams…

I know a girl who has a mash up of two aunt’s names for her name, so she is the only person in the world with her name. She also has two middle names. I really want to name a son Evelyn or Shirley, but everyone says they will be mocked to death. I do know a male Ashley who is about 30 so there is still one left. Maybe I should track him down and ask him how he feels about having a girls name?

I think the main female character in The Sun Also Rises was Brett (but I’m going back a long way–haven’t read Hemingway in decades.)

My daughter’s name can be male or female; I thought of it as a girl’s name primarily, but recently, especially with her spelling, we’ve seen it more on guys.

It is pronounced that way (although I’d spell it as ee-VAHN) in most Eastern European languages, including Russian.

I have one of the “unisex” names. Even my family (other than my mother & father, of course) spells it wrong.

Also wife of Jack Klugman.
