Update

Okay wanted to give an update. I will be attending Goucher again next month. However, it’s still on the high cost range. I did qualify for financial aid. Goucher took in my father’s out of pocket healthcare expenses (pretty pricy) and it was still doubled the price as I was paying at Knox. So at first glance it was too much. However, I had my father apply for a parent plus loan and he got denied, so I got an additional $4,000 in loans. Originally, Goucher gave me $6,500 in loans and now I will be taking $10,500 in loans this next school year. I was taking $7,500 at Knox per year, so they gave me a lower amount in federal loans to begin with. I did qualify for a Goucher grant as well. I was going to be 30k in debt when I graduated Knox, not sure how much I will be at Goucher, but logistically I was better off at Knox since we were paying half the cast, taking less loans, and it was a higher rated and better school academically. However, Goucher is a much better fit and I really like it 10x better.

The thing is though I should be getting an additional $5,000 in loans not $4,000. You get 5k for being a junior and 4k for being a sophomore. I had 50 credits after last semester, so technically I am a sophomore still. However I took 9 credits at a local state school in GA in May/June, so I will have 59 once I start next semester. The problem is the college cannot send my transcript until August 1st because that’s when all the grades come out. I did A session, but B session just got over. So until they send my GA transcript, I’m a sophomore in the eyes of financial aid even though I’m really a junior and the registrar changed my graduation date two months ago to May, 2016. Originally, I was going to graduate a semester later, but since I took these summer classes, I’ll be graduating on time. And I was actually told by the head of the registrar I could have still graduated on time had I not taken these 3 classes, but I would have had to take 17.5 credit hours a semester. Also as a double major, I don’t have time for some general eds thus I took them this summer. Anyways, I’ll be graduating on time even though I did leave Knox mid-term last Fall. I had additional AP credits and I took an extra course at Knox which helped…

I do have some good news! After months looking for a summer job (applied to over 20 places), the GAP hired me about 10 days ago. The bad news is that they hired five other people too, so I got 3 and a half hours last week and 5 hours on call next week (don’t work again until next Saturday). It’s really not worth the gas since it’s 25 mins without traffic (was more today as I had to go in rush-hour) each way. My hope is to get transferred to a GAP at the mall right next to Goucher (can walk there in five minutes) and then work seasonal before I head off to Australia, but the way this is going, we’ll have to see. It’s going to be hard to work when I plan on interning in DC this fall, horseback riding credits, 17/18 credits, and nightly theatre rehearsals. Maybe finding a work study job will be better. I had one at Knox, but Goucher wasn’t hiring this past semester. But then again if I work one shift a week then I can do that!

Sorry if I “overshared” as usual, but I tried my best not to go into detail about how much my father will be paying. I just mentioned how many loans I’ll be taking and not the overall cost we’ll be paying. I’m trying not to post too much about my parent’s. I will PM calmom and some other CCers privately to discuss other matters. Sorry I haven’t responded to everyone!
