Still the ninth. Decisions were finalized today.
@BigJah how do you know?
Hey friends, so I have a small situation!
One of my colleges that I will be applying to RD after Penn is CMU (Tepper School of Business**). I found out that they require two subject tests [Math II & Recommended Science]. I already took the Math II, but have to take the science test tomorrow. The issue is: I hate science & feel like I am going to fail the biology E test tomorrow. I think I would do best on this test (of the sciences), but am still not going to do well.
My major and school will not require biology, so I’m upset that this score will hurt me even though it doesn’t show my ability to do business stuff lol. Do I:
A. Take the Biology E test and hope for a decent score
B. Take the Math I test (which I know is redundant, but it would technically satisfy the two-subject requirement)
C. Curl up in a ball & cry
I’m honestly good with either one… I’m just trying to decide which would hurt my chances the least.
@BigJah I agree, I’m also for the 9th. However, are you sure decisions were finalized today? I talked to the admissions office today about updating my application and they said I could do it until monday, which makes me think that Monday is when the decisions are finalized.
Definitely take the Bio test. Taking Math 1 after taking Math 2 is redundant and admissions officers probably wouldn’t like it.
@financemajor37 I would take the biology e test since they recommend a science test. I took it and it’s not that bad. Have you taken ap bio or honors bio recently?
@KateHBag lmao that is my issue… I took honors biology in 9th grade I got a test prep book, but there wasn’t much I could do in 9 days haha
Okay I will take the bio e! Wish me luck XD
@NoahTapp
YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!!! I am applying to Wharton as well, and I have not started a business either… While I am sure that there are many applicants who have in fact done this, you have to remember that that is not everyone. My interviewer (who just graduated from Wharton) told me that she did not start a business, in fact, she did not have any business related E.C’s. They want to see a passion and leadership involvement, but they know that not everyone can start a business at age 17. So always think positive and you may in fact be pleasantly surprised!
@NoahTapp Do not feel alone in your situation; many students (even admitted students) have not started businesses in high school. If it makes you feel better, I applied to Wharton from a school that doesn’t even have business courses. I feel extremely underqualified when compared to other students even though I know I would make the most of Wharton’s education. You are NOT alone and the admission officers recognize that starting a company in high school does not always correlate to future success. Yes, they want a handful of entrepreneurs (and starting a business wouldn’t hurt your application), but they are also looking for other types of students. At this point, all we have is the chance to self-evaluate and hence, self-doubt ourselves and our abilities… Try your best not to do this over the next few days because in the end, we don’t know who will get in and who won’t. All we can do is recognize that we tried our best in high school and continue to move forward (after decision day— whether accepted or rejected). I am sure you are a strong applicant, and even if Penn doesn’t work out, you will still be very successful at whichever college you attend (hopefully Penn!!). I wish you the best of luck, but it is out of our hands at this point!
Yeah @BigJah how do you know about the decisions being finalized? I really hope so
@NoahTapp chill man, you don’t have to start a business. Yeah, some people do, but a lot don’t. Wharton is about helping people find their passion for the world using business, and they don’t expect you to do that already! So stay positive.
And regardless of Wharton, why feel like a failure? This is literally the beginning of your life. You are about to go free into the open world, where you will truly define yourself. In all honesty, where you go to college is a very minuscule part of our life. It doesn’t seem that way because since we were kids, college is the only think you’re working for. But in life you’re going to be working to making yourself and your community better, using business in your case, and that is what will define success for you man. Don’t trip over what college you went to, how many APs you took in high school, your GPA, just focus on finding yourself in the next four years, and coming out the gates running to change the world.
Getting rejected from Wharton would be tough. It’s my concern as well. Will it hurt me, yes. Will I feel like crap for a few days, yes. But I’ll always know I worked my hardest, and I know my potential in the real world and I am beyond excited to go forward. You should have the same attitude so you can be happier :). (Also, don’t downplay yourself. I’m sure you’re a great candidate. You stand as much of a chance as anyone on here, for getting accepted. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst)
Good luck to you, and I hope to see us doing big things, possibly together, one day!
I have a feeling that it’s going to be the 12th because Penn has released decisions on Mondays before… Also because all of us are so sure it’s gonna be on a Friday, I feel like it’s going to catch us off guard idk
I hope it’s the 12th!!! @livelovelol Obviously, I would prefer the 9th, but I could settle for the 12th
@financemajor37 That’s what I’m thinking too! The 12th is at least better than the 16th
Anything is better than the 16th, but I’m an idiot and mentally prepared myself for the 9th lol
@livelovelol Exactly! The 16th would be torturous. I just don’t want to have to make it through 2 full weeks of classes before finding out!
@financemajor37 My break starts on the 13th, and I really hope I find out before that rather than after…
I’m just stopping by. I applied EA to Harvard (so i definitely can relate to all the stress going on right now), and I wish you guys the very best of luck! I really love the support system in this group, and you all seem to be close already!
If deferred/rejected from Harvard (statistically, very likely), I’ll be applying to UPenn, and I may see some of you in the Fall. Out of curiosity, why UPenn?
@financemajor37 I’m also taking a subject test tomorrow! Also, I took bio E in june and thought I did badly after leaving the testing center, but actually did well due to the curve. I agree that you should take bio. Best of luck!!
