<p>okay, so i’m a freshman and here are my stats </p>

<p>simple average: 94.86 (at one of three of New York City’s top-tier competitve public high schools)
core classes only average: 96.43 </p>

<p>clubs: Model United Nations, Mural Painting Club, Cross Country Track, Office Squad Community Service, Chorus, two books written (working on getting them published), Piano </p>

<p>I’m Black and I’m female and I come from an educated (Mom’s got a Ph.D, Dad’s got 2 Masters) but not rich family</p>

<p>I’ve been reading in this thread about URM’s, and all that wonderful good junk.</p>

<p>I didn’t emphasize me being Hispanic in my application to Harvard or in my Early Action App to Yale (where I luckily got in)</p>

<p>I think part of the situation with many people is that their essays lack anything other than what is expected.</p>

<p>I told my intervewer for Harvard that I get tired of people who just think that putting a sob story like “I’m poor and Hispanic” is going to mean something. </p>

<p>Buck up. There are 300 million in this nation, 6 billiion in this world. Pain and suffering isn’t unique to you and you arent’ the tragedy of this universe.</p>

  • Essays (subject and responses): I thought my essays were pretty cool. One was about going to camp and being in a room full of different people, each one introducing a different item from their home. The other one was about the beauty of the world and my introduction into space opera science fiction, the first feeling of a the rush of the future going through my mind (spaceships, planet colonization, etc.)
  • Teacher Recs: Great. She totally nailed it for me :slight_smile:
  • Counselor Rec: Great 
  • Interview (feel and general location): No Interview.

  • Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I think it’s because I seem real but at the same, optimistic. I really do feel that was my key, that my essays really showed a lot about who I was. They weren’t particularly awestricking, but I thought that the one about science fiction, in particular, got me in .

<p>Hispanics, African Americans and Native Americans are considered under represented because their percentages on college campuses do not reflect their percentages of the national population. Therefore they are under…represented. Why this is so isn’t the issue…the goal is to have college demographics that mirror national demographics. It is a socially relevant goal for which URM policies are created.</p>

<p>Btw…hiphop, rap (not my cup of tea) and r&b (looove r&b) should be respected as culturally significant artistic expression.</p>
