Cervantes: 650 in math will hardly cut it for an English major much less an engineering major at a selective school…

You know you don’t know what you are talking about, the SAT is only one metric of success, but more over you are only looking at one part of my SAT i got a 790 CR and a 630 W. But that is one test, it doesn’t reflect the hundreds of hours i have spent teaching my self quantum mechanics, it doesn’t show my science awards, it doesn’t show my involvement in clubs, or the fact that i have played football every year since second grade. I know these are pretty average things for ppl applying to these schools, but that is okay. The SAT doesn’t show everything and obviously admission ppl feel so as well.

And to be frank an Asian girl got into Wharton with a 2080, with about a 650 in CR, but obviously she was good enough for an English major, or perhaps she just got in through Affirmative Action -_-

That 790 in CR is extremely impressive. However, most people who cannot break 700 in math really have no place at a competitive engineering program. Even admission officers, who really try not to talk in absolutes, say that a 700 is key for engineering admissions. Also, the Asian girl wasn’t applying for an English major (which would require strong CR skills) she was applying to Wharton (which would require strong math skills). I’m just saying there’s little chance you’ll succeed in an engineering major without a 700 or higher in math. Passion can only get you so far, you need talent. Furthermore, it doesn’t seem you’re really sold on being an engineering major from how you’ve represented yourself on this thread, future lawyer/politician.

True, i don’t want to be an engineering, I love pure science and english type stuff, that is why i want to be a patent attorney, the unfortunate thing about that is that I almost have to do engineering to do patent prosecution, but i could do patent litigation with only a pure science which is probably what i will do, bc I don’t want alot of math.

Biology would be a good science. You’d probably do really well in it because of your passion for science and the fact that you’re a good reader (which is essential for biology). I’m sorry if I was a little harsh earlier, but it just seemed like you were trying to game the system by putting down an engineering major, which would have more than likely backfired, admissions officers aren’t stupid.

True i was trying to game the system T_T, i really want to major in chemistry and double with political science. Thanks because you really were honest with me, and made me be honest with myself.
