URM Parent receives email from Diversity Outreach

I received this email on Friday. I actually called and they asked for one document and stated they didn’t want this document to hold up anything. So from this conversation I would glean that if you received the February email it is nothing but positive. Good luck to everyone.

BigApple2018 states that he never got a Feb. diversity email, but nevertheless got a Diversity hosting invite and was ultimately accepted.

Perhaps BigApple2018’s parents never mentioned it because it seemed so generic.

I’m curious about the percentage of those that received the February email that were later invited to the diversity hosting event.

How did you learn of the missing document? Did the Friday email mention it? Was it listed in your financial aid portal? Or they tell you on the phone call?

They told me during the phone call. That’s what made me slightly more hopeful because the conversation about checking to ensure everything was in order financially was initiated on their end. Our call initial call was simply to get information on how to access the FA portal because we were having password issues.

@hsparent13 So, just to clarify for me — you got the email Friday, then you called about accessing your FA portal, and then on that phone call they brought up checking to ensure everything was in order? If so it sounds good!

Yes that’s correct.

@hsparent13 Thank you.

I am more convinced than ever that the February email does not mean you will receive diversity hosting invite. 4coins is another user in the threads posted that received such a Feb mail (4coins’ was via snail mail) and then did not get invited to diversity hosting.

I do think that this means the student has made the first cut. Probably going to committee or something like that. He will be fought for by the AO but that does not mean he will make it out alive.

@Papa1977 4coins stated in a Feb 26 comment that diversity email was received but not diversity hosting. That was as of Feb 26, though, long before diversity hosting emails were sent. 4coins’ record after that is silent as to diversity hosting/acceptance/rejection.

@Papa1977 Says tried to log in and couldn’t. Says nothing about diversity hosting or whether he was accepted or rejected. Diversity hosting has limited space and not ALL accepted URMs are invited to hosting.

Other than 4coins not replying it seems like the email is most likely a precedent for either an acceptance, diversity hosting (which may or may not happen depending on COVID-19), or high priority waitlist. Seeing as teddy10143 was eventually accepted off the waitlist, it seems safe to say that the waitlist is the worst that can happen after receiving this email.
Good luck to all and hopefully, this email means something.

Diversity Hosting this year has been canceled due to COVID-19. Applicants will learn their admissions decisions by the end of March.

I received the feb. email and just got a likely letter. Maybe there is a high correlation

@miayiazmin congrats!

We got the letter in February too and our son just got the likely letter today at around 5pm New York time.

My father got an email from Diversity Outreach on February 21 and yesterday, March 13, I got a “likely letter” by email, saying “you will be offered admission to Cornell.”

Seems like everyone here who got a likely letter got the February 21 email from Diversity Outreach. Did anyone get the February 21 email and NOT get a likely letter?

Received email and was also accepted today.

i received the feb 21 email and did not get a likely letter
