<p>What do you think?</p>
<p>the essay took me 50+ hours…</p>
<p>50 hours? Seriously?</p>
<p>@hellostranger57 and all other Annenberg hopefuls- </p>
<p>i was checking the past USC 09 transfer thread and it seemed that the earliest status update/acceptance was 5/20 by “uscplease777”. I also checked the 09 decision thread and the earliest acceptance was 5/23. I’m PRAYING that Annenberg doesn’t follow the same trend this year but with acceptances moving in so slowly, it’s likely that our status wave will come around that time :(</p>
<p>@spada Honestly…I would say its an average essay at best. I mean if that took you 50 hours to write you probably should have spent more time on it. I am really not trying to be mean, just truthful, which is probably what you would want.</p>
<p>I’m Annenberg too. PR. I say two weeks tops our pool starts finding out, but what do I know haha.</p>
<p>50 hours? Whoa.</p>
<p>Here is my essay. I applied to screenwriting/creative writing. I would love any honest feedback. I selected the “Visions and Voices” as the topic.</p>
<pre><code> I have a strong relationship with my younger brother, Ben. He is a few years younger than me, but we still manage to share common hobbies that connect us. One of these activities is filmmaking. We both share a passion for all aspects of the art, and love engaging ourselves in creative exercises.
Warner Brothers sponsored a short video contest to advertise a film in the summer of 2008. The objective was to create a 15-second piece that was creative and unique while also promoting the film. Ben and I quickly got to work, and spent hours brainstorming and running ideas by each other. We spent an entire weekend working on the pre-production portion of the film—-writing a script, then scratching it and rewriting it, and finally starting over completely from scratch, certain that we could one-up our previous idea. It took us that entire weekend before we were satisfied with our final concept, and neither of us could stand the anticipation of waiting five days before being able to shoot the film the next weekend.
The following weekend came, and we were rewarded for the endless hours we spent preparing by the joy of seeing our idea come to fruition. It’s difficult to film with only two people, especially when you need two actors to produce the sketch. We embraced the difficulties, though, and used a variety of methods to make sure our final product was flawless. The prominent role I had in all levels of making this film added special meaning to me.
I uploaded the film and waited patiently in hopes that we would hear from the producers. About five weeks had passed when I saw a new e-mail from a representative at Warner Brothers. The memo informed me that our film had been selected as a finalist out of over 200 entries. The film would advance to the next stage where viewers would vote on the piece they enjoyed the most. I was proud that our film earned recognition, but not content in being one of ten finalists. I immediately setup a website in an effort to promote our short film. I maintained a daily blog to draw traffic to the site. Ultimately, I knew more visitors for our site meant more votes for our video. The site received over 300 visitors a day, a number I was proud of considering the lack of time I had to properly promote the film.
The contest results were posted a few weeks later. Our piece finished third out of the ten finalists. While missing out on the grand prize (a trip to the film’s premiere) was certainly disappointing, I managed to take solace in the overall success of our film. My favorite aspect of creative arts is the satisfaction achieved upon completion. There is nothing quite like the experience of creatively stimulating your mind. While the film didn’t win a material prize, it did provide me with something even more valuable: the desire to continue pursuing creative endeavors. That is the prize that encourages me to ambitiously take on new challenges.

<p>I was waiting for someone to post their essay… </p>
<p>I agree with Rhandler. Average to slightly above average. Content was decent but I would be a little more concerned with the grammar. Seems like there are missing commas and misplaced words. </p>
<p>It takes a ton of nerve to post something personal like that in front of your peers, I can definitely appreciate that.</p>
<p>Yeah what mxbile said…I am completely in admiration of both of you for posting your essays up here. I would only post bits and pieces because I am so scared of it not being up to par :X</p>
<p>@ Spada that’s pretty short</p>
<p>Does anyone mind reading mine? PM me if you dont mind.</p>
<p>Describe you academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC:</p>
<p>I don’t know how you guys could post an essay but props, here’s my short answer for 1 of the questions: Annenberg or PoliSci</p>
<p>Tell me if it’s good?</p>
<p>Pursuing a public relations degree at a presitigious university in los angeles will yield incredible amounts of opportunity. I desire to create advertising campaigns and to be a leader in innovative ways to reach potential customers. Major corporations, celebrities and brand imaging are cultivated and distributed within this local market on a global scale. I will be able to saturate myself with fresh ideas and an endless amount of different avenues to explore them. I have already been applying with local companies for internships; I am currently interviewing with TOMS Shoes for their summer live-in internship program. With the help of the univeristy’s curriculum, professors and community I am positive that my skills in this field will increase rapidly.
Political science, in my mind, relates closely with public relations. Building constructive partnerships and dialogue between two groups consititute a description that can be applied to both. Both want to create and present a product or idea that is better than another competitor’s. I want to particularly study how government policies affect commerce, from attracting to retaining different companies and industries. The intricacies of the political world fascinate me; a major business, international, and socially diverse location will provide many opportunities to observe the political phenomenon.</p>
<p>tbibbs: I’ll read your paper if you read mine lol. I’m a bit neurotic about posting it online, in case they do actually check for plagiarism. It’s doubtful, but nonetheless, I’m going to abstain.</p>
<p>Los Angeles is a proper noun.</p>
<p>If anyone is kind enough to offer feedback on mine(last page), I’ll definitely read yours :)</p>
<p>Yeah exactly thats why I dont want to. I used to live in San Ramon btw. haha thats random but i saw danville</p>
<p>WGhiller…</p>
<p>Very well written and it sounds like film making is something that you are highly passionate about. You did an excellent job of describing the your project from initiation to completion. The only thing I would have liked to see is for you to convey a message that describes YOU as an individual. You talk about what you enjoyed in of the process and the dedication you have to be successful but I think you could have included something that described more of what you are on the inside. Again this is just nit picky because I thought it was extremely well written. </p>
<p>I do not want to come across as a know it all or some type of authority on the subject because I am not. You guys obviously posted your essays for feedback and that is what I am trying to give.</p>
<p>How could they check for plagiarism if we have already turned our stuff in…? We are merely sharing our work with each after it has already been turned in. I don’t see why they would frown upon that…</p>
<p>@ hippo
Oh I know LA is a proper, I had to use the rough draft from word. Don’t want to sign onto my application and be tempted to look at my status</p>
